Missouri Comets ready for home opener
Despite changing leagues in the offseason and starting with two games on the road, it appears that the Missouri Comets picked up right where they left off last spring when they won the Major Indoor Soccer League championship.
The Comets made the most of the difficult start and return for their home opener atop the Central Division standings in the Major Arena Soccer League after victories against Dallas and Chicago.
They will try to continue their success Saturday when they play host to Milwaukee at 7 p.m. at the Independence Events Center.
“I don’t think it can get any tougher than that, but I am very happy with the performance of our players and the mentality they have shown,” coach Vlatko Andonovski said. “We didn’t play our best games but we are moving in the right direction.”
Andonovski is encouraged by the balance the Comets have shown offensively thus far. Leo Gibson leads the team with seven goals, but he is one of 10 players who have scored through the first two games. Vahid Assadpour leads the group with four assists.
“Every player has an input regardless of whether they score or not, assist or not, and it seems like everyone is doing their job,” Andonovski said. “Everyone is performing at a certain level.”
Milwaukee is a familiar foe having also jumped from the MISL. The teams split the season series 2-2 last year.
