Kansas City Comets promote assistant Goran Karadzov to head coach

Goran Karadzov is the new coach of the Kansas City Comets, the team announced Thursday.

Karadzov replaces Vlatko Andonovski, who left the Comets after the 2016 season but still coaches FC Kansas City of the National Women’s Soccer League. Karadzov was a Comets assistant the last three seasons, which saw the team win the Major Indoor Soccer League championship in 2014 and reach the conference finals the last two seasons in the Major Arena Soccer League.

“The Comets are huge in this city and this is a dream come true,” Karadzov said in a news release. “They are a family and I have been with so many teams, but that is something that really separates them. All the players have fun and enjoy playing, but at the same time, when it comes time for business they care about their games and practices.”

The Comets also announced that team captain and midfielder Vahid Assadpour and former Attack, Wizards and Comets player Goran Hunjak will serve as assistant coaches.

The Comets season starts Oct. 29 against the Cedar Rapids Rampage at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence.
