Brent Frazee, The Star’s outdoors editor, received two national writing awards at the Outdoor Writers Association of America’s annual conference July 16-18.

He took first-place honors in one category for his feature on Terry Hart, who salvages wooden vintage boats, restores them and uses them to tour Lake of the Ozarks. He received a third place in another category for his feature on Dennis Steinman, who invented a high-tech device that attaches to arrows and helps bow hunters locate deer they have shot.

Frazee has been outdoors editor for The Star since 1980. During that time, he has won more than 50 state, regional and national writing awards. The conference was based in Billings, Mont., and attracted more than 300 attendees.
