Missouri
SMITHVILLE: 82 degrees, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: Bass good on Brush Hogs, jigs, square-bill crankbaits, topwater lures in shallows off main-lake points and in river arms; crappies good on minnows 8 to 10 feet down in 20 feet of water in main-lake brush; channel catfish good on dip baits in the back of coves; flathead catfish fair to good on trotlines with panfish, goldfish; white bass good on small crankbaits, jigging spoons along the face of the dam; walleyes good on crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps off main-lake points.
TRUMAN: 83 degrees, clear, 2 1/2 feet high. Outlook: Steve Blake Guide Service reports: Crappies excellent 8 to 12 feet down in 10 to 15 feet of water in the brush or 12 to 14 feet down in 20 feet of water; white bass fair on early and late on jigging spoons retrieved quickly through surfacing schools; hybrids fair on 4-inch Sassy Shad; largemouth bass fair on 10-inch red-shad plastic worms in the brush; catfish excellent on juglines, rod and reel with cut shad in 10 to 20 feet of water. Below the dam: Walleyes fair to good on crankbaits from boats if two turbines or more are running.

BLUE SPRINGS: Low 80s, fairly clear, near normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: Channel catfish fair to good on blood bait in the coves; bluegills very good on crickets; crappies fair on minnows; bass fair to good on spinnerbaits, swimbaits.
JACOMO: 84 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: Flathead, channel catfish good on rod and reel with live bait in coves; bluegills very good on crickets.

REED AREA: 80 degrees, clear, full pool. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: Bass good early and late on soft-plastic baits near cover; channel catfish fair on cut bait, chicken liver; bluegills, redear sunfish good on worms and small jigs.
BULL SHOALS: Mid 80s, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Buck Creek Marina reports: Bass fair on Zara Spooks early; walleyes fair trolling Flicker Shad in rocky areas in 25 feet of water.
POMME DE TERRE: 84 degrees, fairly clear, 4 feet high. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: Walleyes, crappies, white bass, catfish good on crankbaits trolled in 12 to 14 feet of water.
TANEYCOMO: Clear, variable power generation. PERRY: Low 80s, murky, 1 foot high. Outlook: Don and Tom’s Bait and Tackle reports: Crappies poor to fair on minnows in 15 to 19 feet of water off points and breaks; catfish excellent on Sonny’s dip bait in Devil’s Gap area.

Brent’s best bet
The summer fishing at Smithville Lake has stayed hot. Bass fishing continues to be good to excellent, with many limits being caught. The fishing for crappies, white bass, walleyes and catfish also has been good.
