You don’t have to travel to the country to find wildlife.

Sometimes, it’s as close as your backyard in the city or the ’burbs.

Hang some bird feeders, plant some native vegetation, let one corner of your property go “wild” — build it and they will come.

In this online series (Backyard Wildlife), we’re featuring backyard wildlife and we’re asking our readers to participate. Send us your photos and we’ll run the ones we deem the best in this series. Sorry, this isn’t a contest. No prizes involved. This is just a chance to show your work and maybe get neighborhood bragging rights.

So, keep that camera handy and capture the wildlife that’s making a home in your backyard. Then email us your photos or videos at bfrazee@kcstar.com and we’ll show Kansas City.

Here is the first collection of photos in our series.
