Fishing report for June 23
Missouri
TABLE ROCK: 86 degrees, very clear, near normal. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: All species of black bass good on topwater lures early and on cloudy days; bass also good during the day on spoons off long main-lake points; walleyes very good on bottom bouncers with live bait in 15 to 30 feet of water on gravel flats; white bass very good early on topwater lures and later on one-half-ounce spoons from Kimberling City to Campbell Point; bluegills excellent on worms, crickets in 20 feet of water; catfish excellent on juglines, trotlines with small panfish.
SMITHVILLE: 87 degrees, clear, 10 inches high. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: Bass good to excellent on Brush Hogs, square-bill crankbaits, topwater lures in shallows off main-lake points and in river arms; crappies fair on minnows in the main-lake brush; channel catfish good on dip baits in 3 to 4 feet of water and on trotlines with panfish, goldfish; white bass good on small crankbaits, jigging spoons off main-lake points; walleyes very good on lipless crankbaits off main-lake points.
STOCKTON: 86 degrees, clear, 1.43 feet high. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: Walleyes very good on jigs with nightcrawlers in 17 feet of water on flats and in brush; crappies good on minnows in 16 feet of water in brush; bass good on jigs, plastic worms in 20 feet of water in brush; catfish fair to good on shad on the flats.
TRUMAN: 82 degrees, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Steve Blake Guide Service reports: White bass, wipers excellent on Sassy Shad in 6 to 12 feet of water on humps, especially when water is running; crappies good on jigs in 10 to 15 feet of water in the brush; largemouth bass fair on Sweet Beavers, plastic worms in the timber. Below the dam: walleyes fair on crankbaits.
BLUE SPRINGS: 83 degrees, fairly clear, near normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: Channel catfish on live bait along the dam; bluegills good on crickets, redworms in shallow, rocky areas; crappies fair on minnows early and late off docks.
JACOMO: 84 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: Channel catfish good on live bait along banks; bluegills good on crickets, redworms; largemouth bass fair to good on spinnerbaits, topwater lures early; crappies fair on minnows in the evening.
NORFORK: 83 degrees, clear, near normal. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: Stripers good on white Bink’s spoon in 50 to 60 feet of water; bass good on one-half-ounce spoons in 30 feet of water; walleyes good on spoons on bottom in 27 feet of water.
LONGVIEW: 85 degrees, 36-inch clarity, normal. Outlook: Longview Marina reports: No report due to very low fishing pressure.
LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 83 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Gier’s Bass Pro reports: crappies fair trolling crankbaits or jigs in brush; bass fair on large crankbaits off points when there is current and on 10-inch plastic worms in the brush.
REED AREA: 82 degrees, clear, full pool. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: Bass fair on soft-plastic baits near cover; channel catfish fair on cut bait, chicken liver; bluegills, redear sunfish good on worms small jigs.
BULL SHOALS: Mid 80s, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Buck Creek Marina reports: Bass fair on spoons, crankbaits in 20 to 25 feet of water along bluffs; walleyes fair trolling crankbaits, nightcrawler rigs in deep water; crappies fair on jigs, minnows in 15 to 20 feet of water in brush; catfish poor to fair.
POMME DE TERRE: 86 degrees, clear, near normal. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: Bass fair on plastic baits off points; walleyes fair on Flicker Shad trolled in 12 to 15 feet of water; catfish fair.
TANEYCOMO: Clear, low power generation. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: Below Fall Creek: Rainbow trout fair on white Rooster Tails, white jigs, Power Bait. Trophy Area: trout fair on white Megaworms, midges or scuds.
Kansas
WILSON: Low 80s clear, 5 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s Bait and Tackle reports: Walleyes fair on jigs with nightcrawlers in 8 to 18 feet of water; bass, catfish good; stripers good to very good on jigging spoons in 20 to 25 feet of water.
MILFORD: Mid 80s, clear, normal. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: Wipers, white bass fair early and late where fish are chasing shad on the lower half of the lake; smallmouth bass fair to good good on plastic baits, topwater lures along rocky banks in coves; catfish good on a variety of baits.
WYANDOTTE: 85 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Wyandotte Boats reports: Catfish fair to good on chicken liver, nightcrawlers lakewide in the evening; bluegills fair on crickets, redworms in the shallows; black bass good on plastic baits along dropoffs.
PERRY: Low 80s, clearing, 1 foot high. Outlook: Don and Tom’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good on jigs in 17 to 19 feet of water in the brush; flathead catfish fair in the spillway on rod and reel with green sunfish; channel catfish good on a variety of baits in the Devil’s Gap bean hole.
CLINTON: Mid 80s, clearing, 1 foot high. Outlook: Don and Tom’s Bait and Tackle reports: Crappies good on minnows, jigs in brush; bass fair on plastic baits, crankbaits in the coves.
GLEN ELDER: Mid 80s, clear, slightly high. Outlook: Wayne’s Sporting Goods reports: Walleyes fair to good on jigs with night crawlers in 10 to 20 feet of water; wipers, white bass fair to good where fish are chasing shad in the causeway area and in Walnut Creek; catfish good in the chum holes.
POMONA: Low 80s, clearing, 2 feet high. Outlook: Lighthouse Marina reports: Crappies fair and improving on jigs in 10 feet of water off the docks and on the main lake; white bass fair on jigs, jigging spoons in the evening; catfish good on a variety of baits lakewide.
HILLSDALE: Mid 80s, clearing, near normal. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits in the coves; crappies poor to fair on minnows, jigs in 6 to 10 feet of water in the brush; catfish fair on a variety of baits; walleyes fair (but mostly small) on jigs with nightcrawlers on the flats.
MELVERN: 79 degrees, murky, 1 foot high. Outlook: Melvern Lake Marina reports: catfish fair to good on a variety of baits along the dam.
COFFEY COUNTY: Upper 80s midlake, clear, normal. Outlook: Coffey County reports: Smallmouth bass fair to good.
KILL CREEK: 88 degrees, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Recreation District reports: Bass fair on spinnerbaits early; catfish fair on doughbaits, liver in the evening; crappies fair on minnows, spinners early.
SHAWNEE MISSION: 86 degrees, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Recreation District reports: Bass fair on plastic baits in shallows; catfish fair on dough baits, worms on island; crappies fair on minnows in deep water; panfish fair on worms.

Brent’s best bet
Table Rock Lake doesn’t normally produce great summer fishing. It is known more for its spring action. But this week, it is producing despite the heat. The fishing for white bass, walleyes, black bass and catfish is rated as good to excellent by area guides.
