Ozarks reservoirs proving a big challenge for top pro bass fishermen
Fishing was tough Thursday when the Bassmaster Elite tournament got under way Thursday at Norfork. And it didn’t get much better Friday when the action shifted to Bull Shoals.
With most of the bass locked on spawning beds in the clear, shallow water, fishermen could find the big ones. But catching them was a different matter. Maybe that’s why the standings were so bunched after two rounds.
Bill Lowen of Brookville, Ind., and Chris Zaldain of San Jose, Calif., shared the lead with 10 bass weighing 30 pounds, 14 ounces. But 11 other fishermen were within three pounds of the lead.
Brent Chapman of Lake Quivira missed the cut. The top 50 of the 111-fisherman field go on to finish the third round, which will take place Saturday at Bull Shoals. The tournament will conclude Sunday at Norfork.
