Fishing report for April 7

Missouri

NORFORK: 59 degrees, murky in the creeks, clear on the main lake, normal. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: stripers excellent on stickbaits at night along the banks; smallmouth bass good on white jigs along the banks; walleyes poor to fair (fish are in postspawn phase).

STOCKTON: 59 degrees, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: crappies very good on jigs in 2 to 6 feet of water along spawning areas; bass fair on jigs, crankbaits in 2 to 6 feet of water along chunk-rock banks; walleyes good on jerkbaits off points.

TABLE ROCK: 56 degrees, near normal. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: largemouth, smallmouth, Kentucky bass good on half-ounce jigs, suspending stickbaits, crankbaits along windy, chunk-rock banks.

BULL SHOALS: Mid-50s, clear, near normal. Outlook: Buck Creek Boat Dock reports: bass very good on crawdad-colored Wiggle Warts, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits in 5 to 15 feet of water in the back of creeks; crappies fair to good on jigs in 25 feet of water in brush; white bass fair on jigs, in-line spinners, Swimming Minnows in the creeks.

SMITHVILLE: 50 degrees, fairly clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: bass fair on jigs, spinnerbaits in the shallows in the coves; crappies good on jigs, minnows off the marina docks; channel catfish fair on a variety of baits in the back of coves; walleyes good on stickbaits along the face of the dam at night.

TANEYCOMO: Stained, 2 units running. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: below Fall Creek: rainbow trout good on air-inflated night crawlers, white jigs, white and orange PowerBait.

REED AREA: 57 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: bass fair on plastic baits near brush; channel catfish fair on cut bait, worms; crappies good on tube jigs, minnows near brush, along weed lines; trout poor to fair (a few are being caught on PowerBait, small jigs).

LONGVIEW: 55 degrees, murky, near normal. Outlook: Longview Marina reports: crappies fair (but scattered) on jigs, minnows; bass fair on spinnerbaits in the shallows.

TRUMAN: 55 degrees, fairly clear, near normal. Outlook: Cody’s Bait and Tackle reports: catfish fair on cut bait in 12 to 20 feet of water; below the dam: crappies good on minnows, jigs; walleyes, white bass fair on jigs.

POMME DE TERRE: 53 degrees, clearing, normal. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: bass fair on spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, crankbaits in 5 feet of water; crappies fair on minnows, jigs in 10 to 15 feet of water.

JACOMO: 53 degrees, stained, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: crappies poor to fair (a few are being caught off the marina docks); channel catfish fair to good on night crawlers in the coves and off points; bass good on minnows, spinnerbaits, crankbaits along windy banks.

BLUE SPRINGS: Low 50s, stained, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: crappies poor to fair (a few are being caught on jigs, minnows); catfish poor to fair (a few are being caught on night crawlers along dam and in coves); bass fair to good on minnows, plastic worms in the coves; bluegills good on wax worms, red worms in rocky areas.

LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 52 degrees, murky, 6 feet low. Outlook: Gier’s Bass Pro reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows in 15 to 18 feet of water in brush; bass fair to good on jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits in coves.

Kansas

WYANDOTTE: 56 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Wyandotte Boats reports: trout fair on a variety of baits; channel catfish fair at night on chicken livers, night crawlers off points; largemouth, smallmouth bass good on plastic baits in the shallows; white bass, wipers poor to fair (a few are being caught trolling crankbaits on the main lake); crappies fair on jigs, minnows.

WILSON: Low 50s, clear, 10 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s reports: walleyes fair on chartreuse jigs along the dam and off Lucas Point; smallmouth, largemouth bass, stripers fair to good on live bait in the Otoe area.

LaCYGNE: 60s, clear, normal. Outlook: Linn County Parks reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows; bass fair on finesse baits.

TUTTLE CREEK: 50 degrees, slightly dingy, 2 feet low. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: catfish good on cut shad on upper end; white bass fair in the back of creek arms.

COFFEY COUNTY: 80 degrees at the hot-water outlet, 60s on the main lake, fairly clear, normal. Outlook: Coffey County reports: white bass fair, smallmouth fair. Windy conditions have affected fishing, access.

PERRY: 50 degrees on main lake, fairly clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Don and Tom’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows off Rock Creek docks; catfish fair on cut bait.

SHAWNEE MISSION: 52 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Recreation District reports: trout fair on worms, PowerBait near Shelter 12 and the dam; catfish fair on dough bait along the north side; bass fair on spinnerbaits across from the marina.

KILL CREEK: 54 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Recreation District reports: trout fair on PoweBait near the island and along north shore; bass fair on spinnerbaits, plastic baits; catfish fair on dough bait, liver in the evening.

CLINTON: 55 degrees, fairly clear, near normal. Outlook: Clinton Marina reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows off marina docks.

MELVERN: 52 degrees, clear, 1  1/2 feet low. Outlook: Melvern Lake Marina reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows off marina docks; catfish fair on cut bait on the main lake.

GLEN ELDER: 50 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Wayne’s Sporting Goods reports: catfish fair to good on cut bait, night crawlers on west end; white bass poor to fair (a few are being caught on the west side).

EL DORADO: 54 degrees, clear, 6 inches low. Outlook: Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reports: crappies poor to fair (fish are scattered).

HILLSDALE: 52 degrees, fairly clear, murky, 1  1/2 feet low. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows 4 to 6 feet down in 20 feet of water.

MILFORD: 49 to 52 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: wipers fair on a variety of baits in 10 to 25 feet of water from the old Milford town site north; walleyes fair on stickbaits along the dam in the evening.

POMONA: 53 degrees, fairly clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Don and Tom’s Bait and Tackle report: crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows in the brush in the Dragoon arm.

Brent’s best bet

The night fishing at Norfork Lake continues to be hot. For the second consecutive week, guides and marina operators rate the striper fishing as excellent. Fish are being caught at night on stickbaits along banks.
