Fishing report for July 3
Missouri
TABLE ROCK: 82 degrees, clearing, dingy, near normal. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: catfish excellent on minnows, panfish in timbered pockets; bluegills excellent on crickets, worms in 18 to 30 feet of water off long gravel points; bass fair on drop-shot rigs with 4-inch finesse worms in 25 to 35 feet of water, also at night on black spinnerbaits along rocky banks; white bass good trolling Flicker Shad in 20 feet of water on the flats.
STOCKTON: 80 degrees, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: crappies very good on minnows in 18 to 25 feet of water in brush; walleyes fair trolling night crawlers in 13 to 25 feet of water over humps and flats; bass good on large plastic worms in 25 feet of water in brush; catfish very good on night crawlers on flats.
LONGVIEW: 79 degrees, 58-inch clarity, one-half foot high. Outlook: Longview Lake Marina reports: catfish good on chicken liver in Mouse Creek and the cove between Shelter 13 and 14; crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows along east bank between Johnson Cove and the dam.
TRUMAN: 80 degrees, muddy, 1.6 feet high. Outlook: Bucksaw Marina reports: crappies fair on minnows in 18 to 20 feet of water in clear water on the lower end; bass fair on topwater lures early and crankbaits in the afternooon off main-lake points; catfish good on jug lines with panfish in 12 feet of water; white bass fair to good trolling white crankbaits, spoons in the dam area. Below the dam: Cody’s Bait and Tackle reports: all species poor.
LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 84 degrees, fairly clear, one-half foot low. Outlook: Gier’s Bass Pro reports: crappies fair on minnows 15 feet down in 25 feet of water in main-lake brush; bass fair on jigs, plastic worms, Brush Hogs in brush; catfish fair on trotlines, jug lines on cut shad in 15 to 25 feet of water suspended on the main lake.
JACOMO: 79 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: channel catfish good on shad, chicken liver, bluegills in rocky areas; bass fair on plastic worms, night crawlers in coves; bluegills very good on wax worms, PowerBait, crickets in the shallows; crappies fair.
BLUE SPRINGS: 80 degrees, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: channel catfish good on shad in the coves and below Jacomo Spillway; bass good on a variety of lures in the coves; crappies fair.
SMITHVILLE: 84 degrees, fairly clear, near normal. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: black bass good on square-billed crankbaits, Carolina rigs, Senkos along grass off main-lake points; crappies good on jigs 8 feet down in 20 feet of water in main-lake brush; channel catfish good on a variety of baits in the shallows; flathead catfish good on trotlines, jug lines with goldfish, panfish.
BULL SHOALS: 81 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: 125 Marina reports: smallmouth bass good on topwater lures early and dusk to midnight, also on shad, minnows under lights at night; catfish fair to good on juglines, trotlines with cut bait.
TANEYCOMO: Very clear, two to three units running for about four hours starting in the afternoon. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: Trophy Area: trout fair on No. 18 to 20 tan scuds. Below Fall Creek: trout fair on 1/8-ounce white or sculpin colored jigs, air-injected night crawlers, PowerBait.
NORFORK: 82 degrees, clear, near normal. Outlook: Tom Reynolds Guide Service reports: walleyes good on night-crawler harnesses, spoons, small shad on main-lake flats or points in the creeks; stripers good on shad or trolling umbrella rigs from midlake south; smallmouth bass good on brown jigs, spinnerbaits in 5 to 15 feet of water early and deeper later in the day.
REED AREA: 80 degrees, clear, full pool. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: black bass good on plastic worms along brush and weed beds; bluegills good on worms, small jigs under bobbers; channel catfish fair on chicken liver, cut bait.
POMME DE TERRE: 84 degrees, clear at the dam, murky on the upper end, one-half foot high. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: all species poor.
Kansas
WILSON: 78 degrees, clear, 6 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s reports: walleyes good on night-crawler harnesses drifted in 30 to 50 feet of water; stripers very good on black salties, extra-large shiners in 25 to 30 feet of water; bass very good on live bait, variety of lures in rocky areas; catfish very good on a variety of baits lakewide.
MELVERN: 80 degrees, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Melvern Marina reports: smallmouth bass excellent on plastic baits, spinnerbaits in 4 to 6 feet of water in coves; crappies fair on jigs, minnows in 12 to 15 feet of water in main-lake brush; catfish excellent on a variety of baits lakewide.
TUTTLE CREEK: 80 degrees, clearing, slightly murky, 4 feet high. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: white bass, saugeyes good on Double W spoons, Bubbas; saugeyes also good on jigs with night crawlers, crankbaits; channel catfish good on shad.
MILFORD: 78 degrees, fairly clear, 3 feet high. Outlook: Rick Dykstra reports: wipers good on shad in 20 to 26 feet of water, also on topwater lures early and late; smallmouth bass excellent on plastic baits in 4 to 18 feet of water in rocky areas.
HILLSDALE: 83 degrees, slightly murky, clear, near normal. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: catfish good on a variety of baits lakewide; walleyes good on jigs with night crawlers, minnows; catfish good on a variety of baits.
POMONA: 80 degrees, murky, 2 feet high. Outlook: Lighthouse Bay Marina reports: catfish good on a variety of baits; walleyes fair on jigs with night crawlers on the flats; wipers fair trolling crankbaits in 16 to 22 feet of water along the dam; crappies poor.
PERRY: 82 degrees, fairly clear, 3 feet high. Outlook: Bait Hut reports: catfish good on a variety of baits lakewide
KILL CREEK: 86 degrees, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: crappies fair on minnows at the marina and in deeper water near the flooded timber; bass fair on spinnerbaits along the banks; catfish good on stink bait, worms off the docks and near the island.
GLEN ELDER: 78 degrees, fairly clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Wayne’s Sporting Goods reports: crappies poor to fair; walleyes fair drifting bottom-bouncers with live bait; white bass fair on minnows under lights at night; catfish fair to good on cut bait.
EL DORADO: 81 degrees, fairly clear, one-half foot high. Outlook: Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reports: walleyes good on small crankbaits trolled on the flats, and jigs with night crawlers on the flats; wipers fair on crankbaits, jigs on the main lake.
HERITAGE: 86 degrees, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: catfish fair on worms, stink bait on the island and along west side of dam; crappies fair on spinners along dam; bass fair on spinnerbaits, jigs along the banks in the evening.
SHAWNEE MISSION: 84 degrees, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: catfish fair on stink bait, sunfish along north shore; crappies fair on spinners along dam; bass fair on spinners, jigs along banks in the evening.
WYANDOTTE: 78 degrees, very clear, normal. Outlook: Wyandotte Boats reports: largemouth bass good (but mostly small) on plastic baits in the shallows; channel catfish fair on night crawlers, chicken liver at night; wipers fair on chicken liver and crankbaits trolled on the main lake.
COFFEY COUNTY: 92 degrees at the hot-water outlet, 85 degrees midlake, clear, normal. Outlook: Coffey County reports: smallmouth bass poor to fair; white bass fair; crappies fair in 20 to 30 feet of water.
CLINTON: 80 degrees, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Clinton Marina reports: crappies fair (but small) on the main lake.
LA CYGNE: 92 degrees at the hot-water outlet, high 70s midlake, murky, 1 foot high. Outlook: Linn County Parks reports: channel catfish fair on a variety of baits.
Other area waters
GRAND (Okla.): 80 degrees, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Jeff Williams reports: crappies very good on Go-Go Minnows, Flick’r Tails in 15 feet of water in brush, around docks and bridge piers; crappies also good at night under lights on minnows; white bass good on Bendable Minnows over humps and points; catfish good drifting shad in 10 to 30 feet of water.
WHITE RIVER (Ark.): Clear, low water in the morning, power generation in the afternoon. Outlook: Gaston’s White River Resort reports: Fly fishing: trout good on midges, emergers while wade fishing in the morning and on black or pink jigs when water is rising. Spin fishing: brown trout good on sculpins in the morning; rainbow trout good on Rapalas, Blue Fox spinners, Rooster Tails in low water, also on Countdown Rapalas, Scatter Raps, suspending jerkbaits, Flicker Shad on higher water.
BEAVER LAKE (Ark.): 81 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Bailey’s Guide Service reports: stripers good trolling live shad or umbrella rigs with white grubs in 10 to 60 feet of water on the main lake, also trolling with downriggers with Rapalas, Bomber 15A and 16A crankbaits, or spoons.

Brent’s best bet
Wilson Lake in central Kansas is the hot spot this week. The big news in that stripers are being caught on live bait in deep water on the flats. The fishing for smallmouth bass and catfish also is very good, and walleyes are being caught by fishermen drifting with night crawlers.
