Fishing

Missouri

NORFORK: High 50s, clear, slightly high. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: stripers good on 1-ounce Bink’s spoons in 40 to 50 feet of water on main-lake flats; bass good on 3-inch Power Worms along banks; crappies good on quarter-ounce Bink’s spoons in the brush piles.

TABLE ROCK: 56 degrees, very clear, near normal. Outlook: White River Outfitters reports: bass excellent on crawdad-colored Wiggle Warts on shallow, windy banks and on Alabama rigs along flooded cedars.

BULL SHOALS: 52 degrees, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Buck Creek Marina reports: Kentucky, smallmouth bass good on Alabama rigs, spoons in 30 to 40 feet of water in major creek channels; crappies fair to good on minnows in 25 to 30 feet of water in brush piles; walleyes fair to good trolling night crawler harnesses in 30 to 40 feet of water in creek channels.

TRUMAN: 45-47 degrees, murky, 8 feet high. Outlook: Steve Blake Guide Service reports: crappies good to excellent on yellow and chartreuse  1/4 -ounce jigs in 22 to 25 feet of water in creek channel bends; catfish good on jug lines with cut shad in the murky water of the Osage and Grand arms.

SMITHVILLE: Low 40s, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows off the marina docks and in main-lake brush; bass fair on suspending stickbaits on the main lake.

TANEYCOMO: Clear, two units running. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: trout very good on inflated night crawlers or pink and chartreuse Power Bait drifting below Fall Creek.

REED AREA: 40 degrees, clear, full pool. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: trout fair on PowerBait, jigs at Coot and Plover lakes; crappies fair on tube jigs, minnows near brush.

STOCKTON: 48 degrees, clear, 4.74 feet high. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: crappies fair to good on jigs, 2-inch grubs in 20 to 30 feet of water along bluffs.

POMME DE TERRE: 50 degrees, clear, 3.57 feet high. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: bass poor to fair on jerkbaits in less than 10 feet of water; crappies poor to fair on jigs, minnows in the brush.

LONGVIEW: 41 degrees, murky, one-half foot high. Outlook: Longview Lake Marina reports: crappies poor to fair (small fish are being caught off the marina dock).

JACOMO: Low 40s, stained, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: crappies poor to fair (a few are being caught off the marina docks).

LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 53 degrees, very clear, near normal. Outlook: Gier’s Bass Pro reports: all species poor.

BLUE SPRINGS: 41 degrees, clear, 1.5 feet high. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: all species poor.

Kansas

POMONA: 42 degrees, murky, 2 feet high. Outlook: Don and Tom’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good on jigs in 15 to 17 feet of water in brush.

WILSON: Low 40s, clear, 10 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s reports: stripers fair on slab spoons in 30 feet of water; walleyes fair on jigs with night crawlers off points.

LA CYGNE: 58 degrees on the main lake, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Linn County Park reports: crappies fair at the discharge gate; white bass fair on jigging spoons at hot-water outlet (watch for gulls diving on shad); largemouth bass fair on a variety of baits.

HILLSDALE: 45 degrees, murky, 2 feet high. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: crappies fair on jigs off the marina docks.

MELVERN: 45 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Melvern Lake Marina reports: crappies poor to fair (a few are being caught on Kastmasters, ice jigs off the marina docks).

MILFORD: Low 40s, fairly clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: wipers poor to fair in the outlet.

PERRY: Low 40s, murky, 2 feet high. Outlook: Don and Tom’s Bait and Tackle reports: all species poor.

CLINTON: Low 40s, murky, 4 feet high. Outlook: Clinton Lake Marina reports: all species poor.

GLEN ELDER: Low 40s, clear, normal. Outlook: Wayne’s Sporting Goods reports: all species poor.

TUTTLE CREEK: Low 40s, murky, 10 feet high. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: all species poor.

COFFEY COUNTY: 74 degrees at hot-water outlet, 56 degrees midlake, stained, normal. Outlook: Coffey County reports: all species poor.

KILL CREEK: No report available.

SHAWNEE MISSION: No report available.

Hunting

Missouri

FOUNTAIN GROVE: 26,440 ducks (mostly mallards); 600 Canada geese; 23 blinds and 18 walk-in areas available. Some flooding in Parsons Creek, but water has dropped to near normal levels on other parts of conservation area. Hunting has been fair to good. On Tuesday, 61 hunters shot 139 ducks and 1 goose.

SWAN LAKE: 37,642 ducks (mostly mallards); 3,775 geese (mostly snows and whitefronts).

SQUAW CREEK: 32,273 ducks (mostly mallards); 128,464 geese (mostly snows and blues). Habitat conditions are good.

NODAWAY VALLEY: 17,500 ducks (mostly mallards); no geese. Hunting 15 positions. Hunting has been fair. Hunters averaged two ducks Tuesday.

BOB BROWN: 54,400 ducks (mostly mallards). Hunting has been fair. On Tuesday, hunters averaged 1.89 duck.

GRAND PASS: 127,500 ducks (mostly mallards). Hunting 40 positions. On Tuesday, 126 hunters shot 182 ducks and 1 goose.

FOUR RIVERS: 75,000 ducks (mostly mallards); 120 Canada geese. Light hunting pressure. Cover is limited. On Dec. 19-20, 51 hunters 127 ducks.

SCHELL-OSAGE: 44,000 ducks (mostly mallards); 400 Canada geese. On Dec. 19-20, 69 hunters shot 116 ducks and 2 geese.

MONTROSE: 7,700 ducks (mostly mallards). On Dec. 19-20, 37 hunters shot 20 ducks.

SMITHVILLE: 4,000 ducks (mostly mallards), 1,000 geese (mostly Canadas).

OTTER SLOUGH: 41,300 ducks (mostly mallards); 14,075 geese. Hunting has been fair. On Dec. 20-21, 188 hunters shot 456 ducks and 13 geese.

DUCK CREEK: 18,000 ducks (mostly mallards), 110 Canada geese. On Dec. 17-18, 250 hunters shot 361 ducks and 1 goose.

Kansas

CHEYENNE BOTTOMS: 18,000 ducks (mostly mallards); 150,000 snow geese. From Dec. 11-17, hunters averaged 2.1 geese per trip.

MARAIS DES CYGNES: 20,000 ducks (mostly mallards); no geese. Water conditions are good to excellent. Season average: hunters have averaged 1.4 ducks per trip.

NEOSHO: 30,000 ducks (mostly mallards). Excellent water conditions. Hunting has been good.

FLINT HILLS: 6,000 ducks (mostly mallards); 2,000 geese (mostly Canadas). Waterfowl numbers are increasing.

PERRY: 1,000 ducks (mostly mallards); 1,000 Canada geese. Hunting has been fair.

TUTTLE CREEK: 6,000 ducks on north end of lake. Some flooding. Hunting good in places.

MILFORD: 600 ducks (mostly mallards). Hunting has been fair.

QUIVIRA: No update.

MELVERN: Variable waterfowl numbers. Hunting has been fair to good.

CLINTON: 2,500 ducks (mostly mallards); 500 Canada geese. Good water conditions in marshes.

HILLSDALE: 200 ducks (mostly mallards). Good water in marshes.

KIRWIN: 11,500 ducks; 109,000 geese (mostly snows).

GLEN ELDER: 18,000 ducks (60 percent divers); 157,000 geese (mostly snows). Hunting has been fair.

McPHERSON WETLANDS: 6,150 ducks (mostly mallards); 2,400 geese. Some flooding in area.

JAMESTOWN: 2,550 ducks (mostly mallards); 400 Canada geese.

Best bet

Two Missouri reservoirs stand out this week. Guides rate the bass fishing as excellent at Table Rock and the crappie fishing good to excellent at Truman.
