Fishing
Missouri
▪ NORFORK: 57 degrees, clear, on the main lake, off-color in the creeks, normal. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: stripers excellent on white Bink’s Spoons in 30 feet of water; bass, crappies excellent on white Bink’s Spoons in 10 to 15 feet of water.
▪ TABLE ROCK: 55 degrees, clear, 4 feet low. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: bass very good on jigging spoons, grubs in 40 to 60 feet of water in creek channels; white bass good on jigging spoons in 30 to 35 feet of water in James River arm.
▪ STOCKTON: 55 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: crappies excellent on one-eighth-ounce grubs in 20 feet of water along bluffs; walleyes fair on jigs in 10 to 20 feet of water along bluffs.
▪ LONGVIEW: 44 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Longview Lake Marina reports: crappies very good on jigs off the marina docks.
▪ BULL SHOALS: 54 degrees, clear, 5 feet low. Outlook: 125 Marina reports: Kentucky bass good on crankbaits in 15 to 20 feet of water; catfish fair on jug lines with cut bait in 10 to 12 feet of water.
▪ SMITHVILLE: 43 degrees, stained, slightly high. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good on jigs off the docks at Camp Branch and Little Platte marinas and in Saliboat Cove.
▪ JACOMO: mid 40s, clear, normal. Outlook: Jacomo Marina reports: crappies good on small plastic tube or marabou jigs off the marina docks. An 8-pound walleye was caught at the marina last week.
▪ LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 57 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: white bass good on jigs off points.
▪ TANEYCOMO: 49 degrees, clear, limited power generation. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: Trophy Area: trout very good on No. 16 gray scud flies. Below Fall Creek: trout good on garlic-flavored PowerBait, white sculpin jigs.
▪ TRUMAN: 45 degrees, stained, 1 foot high. Outlook: Bucksaw Marina reports: crappies fair on chartreuse and pink or black and purple tube jigs in 15 to 25 feet of water along bluffs.
▪ REED AREA: 43 degrees, clear, full pool. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: area is closed to fishing during the managed deer hunt Nov. 17-21. Ice on lakes.

▪ MELVERN: 47 degrees, clear, 11/2 feet low. Outlook: Melvern Marina reports: crappies good on minnows, ice jigs off marina docks.
▪ CLINTON: 43 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Clinton Marina reports: crappies poor to fair on jigs off the marina docks; white bass poor to fair on jigs, jiging spoons in marina cove.

▪ GRAND (Okla.): 55 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Guide Rusty Pritchard reports: crappies fair on Go-Go Minnows in 10 to 15 feet of water in brush.
▪ WHITE RIVER (Ark.): Clear, 2 to 3 generators running most of the day. Outlook: Gaston’s White River Resort reports: brown, rainbow trout very good drifting redworms, fly fishing with San Juan worms or jigs, and casting countdown Rapalas, Thomas Buoyant Spoons.
▪ BEAVER LAKE (Ark.): 61 degrees, clear, low. Outlook: Bailey’s Guide Service reports: stripers fair to good trolling live shad up to 30 feet deep in the Lost Bridge area and along channels that run up against humps in the Big Clifty area.
Hunting
Missouri
▪ FOUNTAIN GROVE: 25,730 ducks (mostly mallards). Marshes are mostly ice-covered. Hunting has been fair.
▪ SQUAW CREEK: 42,570 ducks (mostly mallards); 15 geese. Marshes are 95 percent ice-covered.
▪ SWAN LAKE: Declining waterfowl numbers due to ice, which covers most of the wetlands.
▪ BOB BROWN: 51,000 ducks (mostly mallards). Ice 3 to 4 inches thick covers 85 percent of the area. Hunting has been poor. On Tuesday, hunters averaged 1.73 ducks per man.
▪ NODAWAY VALLEY: 26,150 ducks (mostly mallards). Wetlands are 90 percent ice-covered. Hunting has been poor. On Tuesday, hunters averaged .04 ducks per man.
▪ GRAND PASS: 120,000 ducks (mostly mallards). Wetlands are 99 percent ice-covered. Hunting has been fair. On Tuesday, hunters averaged 2.5 ducks per man.
▪ FOUR RIVERS: 97,000 ducks as of latest count, Monday. Ice on marshes. On Monday, 52 hunters shot 196 ducks.
▪ SCHELL-OSAGE: 55,500 ducks and 25,000 to 40,000 snow geese as of latest count, Monday. However, staff indicated that waterfowl numbers have decreased since then because of increasing ice. Hunting has been fair to good.
▪ SMITHVILLE: 12,000 ducks (half mallards); 4,000 snow geese. Hunting has been good.
▪ MONTROSE: 2,040 ducks. Hunting has been fair.
▪ DUCK CREEK: 11,170 ducks; 50 Canada geese. Hunting has been poor. On Sunday, 86 hunters 101 ducks.
▪ OTTER SLOUGH: 18,235 ducks (good numbers of mallards); 235 Canada geese. Hunting has been good. On Saturday and Sunday, 213 hunters shot 643 ducks.
Kansas
▪ CHEYENNE BOTTOMS: 9,000 ducks (mostly mallards and green-winged teal); 160,000 geese (mostly darks). About 95 percent of marshes have ice. Hunting has been fair.
▪ MARAIS DES CYGNES: 20,000 ducks (mostly mallard and green-winged teal). Ice on marshes. Hunting has been fair.
▪ QUIVIRA: 87,000 ducks (mostly mallards); 130,000 geese (65 percent snows). Area is now open to hunting in designated areas.
▪ MELVERN: 13,000 ducks (75 percent mallards); 1,500 Canada geese. Hunting has been good.
▪ MILFORD: 1,500 ducks (mostly mallards); 600 geese. Ice on marshes. Hunting has been fair.
▪ PERRY: Increasing duck numbers. Hunting has been fair.
▪ TUTTLE CREEK: 4,000 ducks in area; 200 Canada geese. Marshes have ice. Hunting has been poor to fair.
▪ HILLSDALE: Good waterfowl numbers (mostly mallards). Hunting has been fair. Marshes have ice.
▪ GLEN ELDER: 45,000 ducks (60 percent divers, 40 percent mallards); 50,000 geese (mostly snows). Hunting has been good.
▪ NEOSHO: 25,000 ducks (mostly mallards and green-winged teal); 150 Canada geese. Marshes are 90 percent ice covered.
▪ KIRWIN: 10,000 ducks (mostly mallards); 105,000 geese (95 percent snows).
▪ FLINT HILLS: 2,500 ducks (mostly gadwalls and mallards); 750 geese. Hunting has been fair.
▪ CLINTON: Low waterfowl numbers. Limited water in the wildlife area.
▪ McPHERSON VALLEY WETLANDS: 2,500 ducks (mostly teal, pintails). All pools have huntable water. Habitat conditions very good. Hunting has been good.
▪ JAMESTOWN: 10,000 ducks (mix of green-winged teal, mallards). Mostly ice-covered. Hunting has been fair.
Brent’s best bet
The fishing at Norfork Lake has been hot in spite of the cold weather. The action for stripers, bass and crappies has been excellent, with good-sized fish being caught on white Bink’s Spoons.
