Fishing report for Oct. 8

Missouri

▪ NORFORK: 74 degrees, stained, 6.5 feet high. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: stripers, hybrids, whites, largemouth bass, crappies good on one-half-ounce white Bink’s spoons in 35 to 40 feet of water.

▪ STOCKTON: 71 degrees, clear,  1/2 foot high. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: walleyes fair on night crawlers, crankbaits off points; crappies good on jigs, minnows in brush and off bluff ends in 13 to 20 feet of water; bass fair to good on spinnerbaits, crankbaits in 3 to 20 feet of water off main-lake and secondary points.; catfish good on shad, minnows in 15 feet of water.

▪ SMITHVILLE: 66 degrees, clear,  1/2 foot high. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: bass good on spinnerbaits, square-bill crankbaits in the cuts and creeks; crappies fair on minnows in brush piles from 6 to 20 feet of water; white bass good on Rat-L-Traps, Rooster Tails off main-lake points; catfish good on cut bait in shallows, on flats.

▪ POMME DE TERRE: 72 degrees, clear,  1/2 foot high. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: muskies good on shallow-running crankbaits, bucktails in shallows.

▪ TABLE ROCK: 75 degrees, clearing, 2 feet low. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: bass fair to good on topwater lures (wake and walking baits) in creek channels, on RK Crawlers in 12 feet of water in the creeks, and on flutter spoons off the corners of the commercial docks.

▪ ▪ TRUMAN: 69 degrees, clear, near normal. Outlook: Sterett Creek Marina reports: crappies good on jigs in 10 to 15 in brush; bass fair on crankbaits at the wier and along the dam; catfish good on trotlines.

▪ JACOMO: Low 70s, clear, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good in the morning on jigs, minnows off the docks and in main-lake brush also trolling with a swimming Minnows; channel catfish fair on large minnows in the coves (Sailboat Cove has been one of the best); white bass very good on Rooster Tails where fish are surfacing; bluegills fair on crickets.; walleyes fair on large crankbaits, live bait along the dam.

▪ BLUE SPRINGS: High 60s, clearing, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good early on minnows, jigs off the boat docks; channel catfish fair on large minnows, shad; hybrids fair to good trolling crankbaits near the dam; largemouth bass fair early on buzzbaits; bluegills fair on crickets wax worms.

▪ BULL SHOALS: 73 degrees, clear, 10.7 feet high. Outlook: 125 Marina reports: smallmouth, largemouth bass good on  3/4 ounce jigging spoons in 20 feet of water and on topwater lures early and late; catfish good on trotlines with cut bait, stinkbait.

▪ LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 73 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Gier’s Bass Pro reports: bass fair on shaky-head rigs, finesse worms along bluff banks; catfish good on cut bait in 20 to 25 feet of water off humps and secondary points.

▪ REED AREA: High 60s, clear, full pool. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: largemouth bass good on plastic worms in the brush; channel catfish fair on cut bait, liver; crappies fair on tube jigs in the brush; bluegills, redear sunfish good on red worms under a bobber in shady areas.

▪ LONGVIEW: 69 degrees, 41-inch clarity, normal. Outlook: Longview Lake Marina reports: crappies fair to good on minnows, jigs in 12 feet of water over brush; bass fair to good on spinnerbaits, crankbaits along the banks.; walleyes fair trolling crankbaits.

▪ TANEYCOMO: Clear, low power generation. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: trout fair drifting night crawlers below Fall Creek, Power Bait, white jigs. Trophy Area: trout fair on dry flies.

Kansas

▪ PERRY: 68 degrees, fairly clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Don and Tom’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good to very good on jigs in 13 to 17 feet of water in Rock Creek and Slough Creek arms (many limits being taken); white bass very good to excellent where fish are surfacing; catfish good on shad at Slough Creek and Devil’s Gap.

▪ WILSON: low 70s, clear, 10 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s reports: stripers good on slab spoons in 25 feet of water on the main lake; smallmouth, largemouth bass fair on crankbaits in rocky areas; walleyes fair on crankbaits, jigs with night crawlers; catfish fair to good on shad.

▪ GLEN ELDER: Low 70s, clear, normal. Outlook: Wayne’s Sporting Goods reports: walleyes good on jigs with night crawlers along dropoffs; white bass, wipers good trolling crankbaits; catfish good on dip bait in chum holes.

▪ WYANDOTTE: 69 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Wyandotte Boats reports: wipers good trolling crankbaits on the main lake; bass good on plastic bait along weed edges, rocky areas; crappies fair on minnows in 12 to 15 feet of water on the main lake; channel catfish good on minnows in the shallows.

▪ POMONA: High 60s, fairly clear, normal. Outlook: Lighthouse Bay Marina reports: white bass, crappies fair on chartreuse jigs, minnows in 12 feet of water; catfish far on worms, cut bait in 12 feet of water.

▪ MELVERN: 71 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Melvern Lake Marina reports: smallmouth, largemouth bass good on crankbaits, msall plastic worms off windy points, face of the dam, and the shallows in the coves.

▪ MILFORD: 70 degrees, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: wipers good on topwater lures in the shallows and on spoons, Bubbas during the day; catfish fair lakewide.

▪ ▪ KILL CREEK: 66 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Recreation District reports: catfish fair on liver near the marina; crappies fair early and late on jigs, minnows in the flooded timber and off the dock; bass fair on plastic baits, spinnerbaits on the south side.

▪ SHAWNEE MISSION: 68 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Recreation District reports: fair early and late on minnows in the shallows; crappies fair on minnows off the docks; bass fair early and late on spinnerbaits, plastic baits.

▪ COFFEY COUNTY: 90 degrees at the hot-water outlet, 81 degrees midlake, clear, normal. Outlook: Coffey County reports: smallmouth bass good on plastic baits along the riprap; white bass fair.

▪ HILLSDALE: 68 degrees, fairly clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: crappies good (but mostly small) on minnows.

▪ EL DORADO: 70 degrees, fairly clear, normal. Outlook: Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reports: white bass, wipers fair trolling crankbaits; crappies fair on jigs, minnows in 12 to 15 feet of water brush.

▪ TUTTLE CREEK: 70 degrees, clearing, near normal. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: catfish poor to fair; crappies poor to fair.

▪ CLINTON: 70 degrees, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Clinton Lake Marina reports: all species poor.

▪ LA CYGNE: High 70s on the main lake, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Linn County Park reports: all species poor

▪ GRAND (OKLA.): 75 degrees, clear,  1/2 -foot high. Outlook: GrandFishingReport.com reports: white bass good early and late on Go-Go Minnows, Rooster Tails off windy points; crappies good on Crappie Kickers in 3 to 8 feet of water in the brush; catfish good on cut shad in the shallows off windy points.

▪ WHITE RIVER (ARK.): Clear, variable power generation. Outlook: Gaston’s White River Resort reports: Fly fishing: trout good on San Juan worms, white or black jigs, scuplin pattern flies, streamers. Spin fishing: trout good on white, gray-white or brown jigs; stickbaits river-slick minnows.

Brent’s best bet

With the water temperatures falling, the fish are biting at Norfork Lake. Stripers, hybrids, white bass, black bass and crappies are all hitting on white Bink’s jigging spoons on the main lake.
