Fishing

Missouri

▪ STOCKTON: 62 degrees, clear, 3 feet high. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: crappies very good on jigs in 20 feet of water along bluffs and channel dropoffs; walleyes fair on jigs with night crawlers, Rat-L-Traps in 6 to 13 feet of water off main-lake points; bass good on squarebill crankbaits, spinnerbaits in 3 to 5 feet of water along laydowns and banks in coves.

▪ NORFORK: 65 degrees, off-color, 3 feet low. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: stripers, hybrids fair trolling umbrella rigs; bass good on spoons, grubs in 45 feet of water; crappies good on jigs, jigging spoons in 30 feet of water in brush.

▪ BULL SHOALS: 60 degrees, clear, 5 feet low. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: Kentucky bass good on topwater lures in 15 to 20 feet of water; and on shallow-running crankbaits 4 to 5 feet down; catfish fair on jug lines with cut bait in 10 to 12 feet of water.

▪ TABLE ROCK: 67 degrees, clear, 3 feet low. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: bass good on 3/8-ounce pumpkin-colored football jigs with twin tail trailers in 15 to 25 feet of water off long points and on flats.

▪ SMITHVILLE: 55 degrees, stained, slightly high. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good on jigs, minnows in 10 feet down in 15 to 20 feet of water in Sailboat Cove and both marina coves; white bass good, walleyes fair on Rat-L-Traps, small crankbaits, Road Runners off windy points.

▪ LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 61 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Gier’s Bass Pro reports: crappies fair on minnows in 7 to 12 feet of water along condo docks (some also are being caught trolling crankbaits); bass fair on magnum finesse worms in 12 to 15 feet of water; catfish fair on cut bait in 25 feet of water on humps and points.

▪ BLUE SPRINGS: 54 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: channel catfish fair on cut shad along the dam; crappies fair on minnows in rocky or brushy areas.

▪ TRUMAN: 56 degrees, muddy, 1 foot high. Outlook: Bucksaw Marina reports: catfish fair on cut shad in 11 to 13 feet of water on the flats; white bass fair to good on small crankbaits, jigging spoons, Road Runners off windy points near dam; crappies poor to fair (a few are being caught on jigs, minnows 10 to 12 feet down in 15 feet of water in the creeks).

▪ JACOMO: 55 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: crappies fair on minnows, bright-colored jigs in main-lake brush; channel catfish good on shad, bluegill heads on the flats at night.

▪ TANEYCOMO: 49 degrees, clear, low power generation. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: Trophy Area: trout good on No. 12-14 scuds along gravel banks. Below Fall Creek: trout good on microjigs under floats, PowerBait, air-injected night crawlers.

▪ LONGVIEW: 55 degrees, 53-inch clarity, normal. Outlook: Longview Lake Marina reports: crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows off the marina docks; catfish good on liver on the main lake and off the marina docks; bass fair on spinnerbaits, crankbaits in the shallows.

▪ REED AREA: 55 degrees, clear, full pool. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: crappies fair to good on jigs under bobbers over the shallow brush piles; black bass fair on crankbaits; channel catfish fair on a variety of baits.

▪ POMME DE TERRE: 63 degrees, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: bass poor to fair (a few are being caught on Rat-L-Traps, crankbaits); muskies poor to fair (a few are being caught on crankbaits, glide baits less than 5 feet deep).

Kansas

▪ WILSON: 60 degrees, clear, 8 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s reports: white perch good to excellent on worms along banks; stripers very good on black salties, jigging spoons in Nelson’s Cove and off Pelican Point; smallmouth bass good on live bait, crankbaits in rocky coves; catfish good lakewide.

▪ MILFORD: 62 degrees, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: white bass, wipers good on spoons, Bubbas in 5 to 20 feet of water along scattered rocks on the flats above Farnum Creek (best fishing is 90 minutes before sundown until dark).

▪ WYANDOTTE: 60 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Wyandotte Marina reports: bass good on plastic baits in the shallows; crappies good at night on jigs in the main-lake brush.

▪ MELVERN: 61 degrees, murky, 1 foot low. Outlook: Melvern Marina reports: crappies fair on ice jigs, minnows in 16 feet of water in brush.

▪ CLINTON: low 60s, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Clinton Marina reports: crappies poor to fair in 15 to 18 feet of water in the brush; white bass fair trolling crankbaits in coves.

▪ HILLSDALE: 60 degrees, fairly clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: crappies fair on minnows in 6 to 10 feet of water in brush and off docks; catfish poor to fair on a variety of baits lakewide.

▪ GLEN ELDER: 60 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Wayne’s Sporting Goods reports: white bass poor to fair (a few are being caught on jigging spoons in the Granite Creek and Rock creek arms and along the causeway).

▪ COFFEY COUNTY: 65 degrees on the main lake, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Coffey County reports: channel catfish, wipers poor to fair.

▪ POMONA: Mid-60s, murky, 1 foot low. Outlook: Lighthouse Bay Marina reports: crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows off docks; catfish good on shad, cut bait lakewide.

▪ PERRY: 60 degrees, clear, 2 feet high. Outlook: Bait Hut reports: white bass poor to fair, crappies poor to fair on minnows.

▪ LA CYGNE: 70s midlake, clear, normal. Outlook: Linn County Parks: all species poor.

▪ SHAWNEE MISSION: 60 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: all species poor.

▪ KILL CREEK: Low 60s, 1- to 2-foot clarity, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: all species poor.

▪ HERITAGE: low 60s, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: all species poor.

▪ TUTTLE CREEK: 63 degrees, muddy, 4 feet high. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: all species poor.

Other area waters

▪ GRAND (Okla.): 59 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Guide Rusty Pritchard reports: blue catfish very good on cut shad drifted in deep water in the Honey Creek area; crappies good on 1-inch Go-Go Minnows in brush in 10 to 15 feet of water; white bass good on 2-inch Go-Go Minnows in Spring River and off windy points.

▪ WHITE RIVER (Ark.): Clear, sporadic power generation. Outlook: Gaston’s White River Resort reports: Fly fishing: trout good on pearl or ruby midges, sow bugs in low water and on marabou jigs and egg patterns when there is current. Spin fishing: trout good on Berkley Power Worms with one yellow PowerBait egg, redworms, night crawlers, spoons.

▪ BEAVER LAKE (Ark.): 61 degrees, clear, low. Outlook: Bailey’s Guide Service reports: stripers fair trolling live shad up to 30 feet deep; walleyes, stripers fair on 1-ounce Bink’s spoons worked through shad schools.

Hunting

Missouri

▪ FOUNTAIN GROVE: 5,000 ducks (mostly pintails, gadwalls and shovelers); no geese. Hunting has been poor. On Saturday and Sunday, 196 hunters shot 189 ducks.

▪ SQUAW CREEK: 37,815 ducks (18,660 pintails, 9,075 green-winged teal, 4,265 mallards, the rest a mix); 1,570 geese. Water and habitat conditions good.

▪ SWAN LAKE: No updated waterfowl count available. Good water, habitat conditions.

▪ BOB BROWN: 8,960 ducks (mix of early migrants). Heavy hunting pressure. Hunting has been fair. On Saturday and Sunday, 81 hunters shot 236 ducks. Good water and habitat.

▪ NODAWAY VALLEY: 2,350 ducks (a mix of early migrants). Moderate hunting pressure. On Saturday and Sunday, 62 hunters shot 59 ducks.

▪ GRAND PASS: 10,000 ducks (early migrants). Eighteen positions are being hunted. Hunting has been fair. On Saturday and Sunday, 120 hunters shot 278 ducks.

▪ FOUR RIVERS: 4,950 ducks (mix of early migrants ). Twenty-one positions are being hunted. Hunting has been fair. On Saturday and Sunday, 108 hunters shot 299 ducks.

▪ SCHELL-OSAGE: 2,500 ducks; 60 Canada geese. Thirty-four positions are being hunted. Hunting has been poor. On Saturday and Sunday, 150 hunters shot 157 ducks.

▪ SMITHVILLE: 10,000 ducks (mix of species); 2,000 geese. Hunting has been good. Marshes have good water.

▪ MONTROSE: 870 ducks (mixed early migrants). Hunting has been poor. On Saturday and Sunday, 61 hunters shot 43 ducks.

▪ DUCK CREEK: 4,900 ducks; 125 Canada geese. On Saturday and Sunday, 118 hunters shot 282 ducks.

▪ OTTER SLOUGH: 9,410 ducks (mostly early migrants); 220 dark geese. Hunting has been very good. On Saturday and Sunday, 220 hunter shot 711 ducks.

Kansas

▪ CHEYENNE BOTTOMS: 80,000 ducks (mostly teal); 5,000 white-fronted geese. Hunting has been good. From Oct. 26-30, hunters averaged 3.8 ducks per person daily.

▪ MARAIS DES CYGNES: 2,500 ducks (mostly teal and other early migrants). Habitat conditions are good to very good.

▪ QUIVIRA: 45,000 ducks (mostly pintails, redheads, widgeons); 40,000 geese (98 percent whitefronts); 5,000 sandhill cranes.

▪ MILFORD: 1,000 ducks (mostly early migrants). Water, habitat conditions are very good.

▪ PERRY: 350 ducks (mostly teal). Hunting has been poor to fair on wildlife area.

▪ TUTTLE CREEK: 3,000 ducks (mix of early migrants). Hunting has been fair. Marshes have good water, excellent habitat.

▪ HILLSDALE: Low waterfowl numbers. Marshes are in poor to fair condition. Hunting outlook is poor.

▪ GLEN ELDER: 1,000 big ducks, 800 divers; 1,200 geese (90 percent Canadas). Hunting poor to fair.

▪ NEOSHO: 5,000 ducks; 100 Canada geese. Shallow water and tall vegetation.

▪ CLINTON: Low waterfowl numbers. Limited water in the wildlife area.

▪ McPHERSON VALLEY WETLANDS: 2,500 ducks (mostly teal, pintails). All pools have huntable water. Habitat conditions very good. Hunting has been good.

▪ JAMESTOWN: 4,000 ducks (mix of early migrants). Hunting has been fair.

Brent’s best bet

Don’t put away the fishing tackle just yet. Even though it’s November, the fishing has been good to excellent at Wilson Lake. The action for stripers and white perch has been the best. Smallmouth bass and channel catfish also have been biting.
