Fishing report for July 30

Missouri

▪ TABLE ROCK: 87 degrees, clearing, 9 feet high. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: catfish excellent on trotlines, jug lines with panfish; bluegills excellent on crickets off long gravel points; largemouth, smallmouth, Kentucky bass very good on horsehead underspins or green-pumpkin jigs in 15 to 22 feet of water off long gravel points; walleyes fair to good on night crawlers off points.

▪ NORFORK: 87 degrees, clear, 16 feet high. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: stripers excellent on Bink’s Spoons in 60 feet of water; bass good on swimbaits in 35 feet of water; walleyes good on white Bink’s Spoons in 32 feet of water; catfish fair on juglines in 25 feet of water on cut bait off main-lake points.

▪ SMITHVILLE: 80 degrees, murky, 3 feet high. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good on minnows in 10 to 12 feet of water in main-lake brush; bass good on crankbaits, Brush Hogs, jigs shallow brush and main-lake points; white bass fair to good on small crankbaits, Rat-L-Traps, Pepper Spoons off main-lake points; catfish good on prepared baits; flathead catfish good on bluegills and goldfish.

▪ JACOMO: Mid 80s, clearing, slightly high. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: channel catfish very good on blood bait, dip bait, chicken livers by the marina dock at night and in the coves; flathead catfish good on shiners, goldfish on the deep flats at night; crappies fair on minnows in brush; bass fair on shiners early.

▪ TRUMAN: 84 degrees, murky, 9 1/2 feet high. Outlook: Cody’s Bait and Tackle reports: wipers good on jigs, spoons on main-lake humps; crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows 10 to 15 feet down in deep water along the bluffs; catfish good on cut bait. Below the dam: catfish good on cut bait; wipers fair on jigging spoons.

▪ BLUE SPRINGS: Mid 80s, clearing, one-half-foot high. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: bluegills very good on crickets in rocky areas; channel catfish fair to good on dip baits, liver, minnows lakewide; crappies fair on minnows off the docks.

▪ TANEYCOMO: Clear, heavy releases; 4 units running. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: trout fair on air-injected night crawlers, pink Trout Magnets drifting in the channel.

▪ STOCKTON: 85 degrees, clear, 4 feet high. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: walleyes good on jigs with night crawlers, bottom-bouncers in 15 to 20 feet of water; bass fair on large plastic worms in deep brush piles; crappies fair on minnows in 20 feet of water in brush piles; catfish good drifting fresh shad in 10 to 20 feet of water on flats.

▪ LONGVIEW: 78 degrees, 34-inch clarity, normal. Outlook: Longview Lake Marina reports: crappies fair on jigs off the marina docks; walleyes poor to fair (a few are being caught on night crawlers).

▪ REED AREA: 82 degrees, dingy, full pool. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: largemouth bass fair early and late on a variety of baits; bluegills, redear sunfish fair on red worms under a bobber; catfish fair on cut bait 2 feet under a bobber.

▪ LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 84 degrees, murky, 1 foot low. Outlook: Gier’s Bass Pro reports: bass fair on jigs, plastic worms, crankbaits in 12 to 15 feet of water off main-lake points and along bluffs; crappies poor to fair (a few are being caught on on minnows in 15 to 18 feet of water in brush); catfish good on rod and reel, juglines, trotlines with cut bait in 25 feet of water.

▪ POMME DE TERRE: 86 degrees, clear, 14 feet high. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: all species poor.

▪ BULL SHOALS: 91 degrees, clear, 30.8 feet high. Outlook: 125 Marina reports: all species poor.

Kansas

▪ MILFORD: Mid 80s, clearing, 2 feet high. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: white, wipers good early and late on Bubbas, topwater lures; smallmouth bass fair to good on crankbaits, jigs off rocky points and in pockets; catfish good on cut shad lakewide.

▪ WILSON: 83 degrees, clear, 9 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s reports: stripers good on live bait in 25 to 35 feet of water; catfish good on a variety of baits lakewide; walleyes fair on jigs with night crawlers in 18 feet of water.

▪ GLEN ELDER: 85 degrees, fairly clear, normal. Outlook: Wayne’s Sporting Goods reports: white bass good on minnows under lights at night; walleyes fair to good on crankbaits, trolling crankbaits and on shiners fished vertically in 20 feet of water along dropoffs; catfish good on dip bait in the chum holes.

▪ TUTTLE CREEK: Mid 80s, muddy, 1 foot low. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: most species good on live bait in the Rocky Ford area.

▪ POMONA: 85 degrees, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Lighthouse Bay Marina reports: crappies fair on jigs in 6 feet of water in the brush; catfish good on night crawlers; walleyes poor to fair (a few are being caught on crankbaits trolled on the main lake).

▪ WYANDOTTE: 86 degrees, murky, near normal. Outlook: Wyandotte Marina reports: bass good on topwater lures early, plastic baits during the day in the weeds; channel catfish fair at night on worms, liver, shad, prepared baits; bluegills good on crickets, red worms, wax worms.

▪ PERRY: 82 degrees, slightly murky, normal. Outlook: Tightlines Bait and Tackle reports: crappies fair on minnows in 6 feet of water in the brush; channel catfish fair on night crawlers lakewide.

▪ KILL CREEK: 85 degrees, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Recreation District reports: catfish good on liver, cut bait along the north shore and in the flooded timber on the south side; bass fair early on spinnerbaits, plastic baits on the south side; crappies fair on jigs, minnows in the flooded timber.

▪ SHAWNEE MISSION: 85 degrees, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Recreation District reports: catfish good on cut bait, stinkbait in the south cove and along the north shore; bass fair on plastic baits along the north shore; panfish fair off the docks and along the dam.

▪ EL DORADO: 83 degrees, slightly murky, 2 feet high. Outlook: Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reports: wipers, walleyes fair trolling crankbaits; catfish fair on shad, cut bait.

▪ MELVERN: 84 degrees, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Melvern Lake Marina reports: crappies poor to fair (a few are being caught on minnows in 15 feet of water off the marina docks).

▪ COFFEY COUNTY: 90s at the hot-water outlet, 85 degrees mid-lake, clearing, normal. Outlook: Coffey County reports: smallmouth bass poor to fair.

▪ CLINTON: 84 degrees, clearing, 2 feet high. Outlook: Clinton Marina reports: all species poor.

▪ HILLSDALE: 88 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: all species poor.

▪ LA CYGNE: 95 degrees in the hot-water outlet, high 80s on the main lake, clearing, normal. Outlook: Linn County Park reports: all species poor.

Other area waters

▪ GRAND (OKLA.): High 80s, clearing, near normal. Outlook: GrandFishingReport.com reports: bow fishing very good along banks and in pockets; white bass good on 2-inch Go Go Minnows, topwater lures early and late; crappies good on minnows in 15 feet of water along banks.

▪ WHITE RIVER (ARK.): Clear, variable power generation. Outlook: Gaston’s White River Resort reports: brown trout good on suspending stickbaits, No. 7 gold countdown Rapalas; rainbow trout very good on night crawlers. Fly fishermen have been catching trout on pink or red San Juan worms.

Brent’s best bet

The fishing at Table Rock has been hot. All three species of black bass — largemouths, smallmouths and Kentucky —are showing up on long gravel points. They have been hitting horsehead underspins and bass jigs in 15 to 22 feet of water.
