Brent’s lure of the week
One of the hottest new bass lures resides in the shadows.
The Shadow Rap, made by the Rapala Co., has already enticed plenty of big bass since it was introduced this winter.
It is one of many suspending jerkbaits on the market — that is, elongated baits that will suspend when paused, imitating a struggling baitfish.
But the Shadow Rap offers a unique twist. It shimmies as it is paused, adding to the appeal for a bass looking for an easy meal.
“The Shadow Rap does something I’ve never seen another bait do — I call it the Death Quiver,” said pro fisherman Randall Tharp. “Even when it’s sitting still, it looks barely alive.”
The lure comes in two versions, one designed to suspend two to four feet down, another that will pause in four to eight feet of water.
The Shadow Rap comes in 14 color pattern and retails for about $10.
(This is the first of an online series featuring some of the most popular fishing lures, both new and old.)
