Fishing report for April 16
Missouri
▪ TABLE ROCK: 58 degrees, off-color, normal. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: largemouth, Kentucky, and smallmouth bass excellent on suspending stickbaits, 4-inch grubs in mouths of major coves (fish are staging for spawn); crappies fair on jigs under floats in 3 to 4 feet of water along rocky banks in river arms; white bass very good on white Road Runners, small crankbaits in the rivers early and late.
▪ NORFORK: 60 degrees, fairly clear, 5 feet high. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: bass excellent on spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs along the spawning banks; stripers good on swimbaits in 20 feet of water two-thirds of the way back in coves; crappies good on jigs in flooded brush.
▪ TRUMAN: High 50s, slightly murky, one-half foot high. Outlook: Cody’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows in 12 to 20 feet of water (fish are staging for the spawn); catfish good on cut bait, shad on sand flats in 10 feet of water. Below the dam: crappies, white bass good on jigs, minnows.
▪ LONGVIEW: High 50s, 46-inch clarity, 1 foot high. Outlook: Longview Lake Marina reports: crappies very good on jigs, minnows off the marina docks; bass fair on plastic baits (fish are moving toward the shallows).
▪ JACOMO: High 50s, stained, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good on jigs, minnows in 6 feet of water along rocky banks (fish are staging for spawn); channel catfish fair to good at night on liver, minnows, shad on the flats; bass fair on crankbaits, jigs in the shallows.
▪ BLUE SPRINGS: High 50s, stained, normal. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: bluegills very good on redworms in rocky areas; crappies fair to good on minnows in rocky areas in the morning; bass fair to good on crankbaits, jigs, minnows along the dam.
▪ TANEYCOMO: Clear, heavy power generation. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: trout good on pink Trout Magnets, wooly buggers, minnow imitations in side creeks and very good on 1/8 or 3/32nd ounce jigs off Lilleys’ dock early in the morning before water flows; trout also good on big scud flies in the Trophy Area.
▪ SMITHVILLE: 52 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: bass good on stickbaits, square-bill crankbaits; spinnerbaits in the shallows along rocky banks and in the mouth of coves in river arms; crappies fair on jigs, minnows in Highway W bridge area, Camp Branch Marina; channel catfish good on liver, worms, shrimp in the coves; white bass good on a variety of lures along face of the dam.
▪ LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 58 degrees, slightly murky, 4 feet low. Outlook: Gier’s Bass Pro reports: crappies good on jigs along spawning banks in the Gravois arm and Indian Creek; bass good on plastic centipedes, lizards, buzzbaits along the banks; catfish good on cut bait in 8 to 12 feet of water in the back of coves and on the flats.
▪ REED AREA: 58 degrees, dingy, slightly high. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: crappies fair to good on tube jigs near the brush and along rocky banks; brown trout good on minnows and a variety of lures; channel catfish fair on a variety of baits; bass poor.
▪ BULL SHOALS: 57 degrees, clear, on the main lake, dingy in the creeks, 8 feet high. Outlook: 125 Marina reports: Kentucky bass fair on jerkbaits off windy banks; crappies poor to fair on minnows in 15 to 20 feet of water in brush.
▪ POMME DE TERRE: 58 to 60 degrees, dingy, 2 feet high. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: all species poor.
Kansas
▪ MILFORD: High 50s, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: wipers good on live bait in 5 to 25 feet of water on the main lake; bass good on jigs with trailers on north half of the lake; walleyes fair on stickbaits in the dam area; crappies fair; catfish good on shad.
▪ HILLSDALE: High 50s, clear, one-half foot low. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: crappies good on minnows off the marina docks; bass good on a variety of baits in 5 to 10 feet of water in flooded timber; walleyes fair on stickbaits along face of dam; catfish good on shad.
▪ WILSON: Low 60s, clear, 9 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s reports: stripers, white bass, smallmouth bass fair to good on jigs, crankbaits, live bait in Hell Creek, Otoe area and Elm Creek; catfish fair on shad gizzards.
▪ WYANDOTTE: 58 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Wyandotte Marina reports: crappies very good on jigs, minnows in the creeks and along the banks; channel catfish good at night on chicken livers, night crawlers off points; bass fair to good on crankbaits, plastic baits in the shallows.
▪ KILL CREEK: 58 degrees, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: crappies fair on minnows on the flats and along the dam; catfish fair on worms, cut bait; bass fair on jigs, spinnerbaits, crankbaits in the shallows; catfish fair on worms, stinkbait near the marina.
▪ GLEN ELDER: Mid 50s, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Wayne’s Sporting Goods reports: white bass fair to good on jigs, small spinners on the west side of the lake and in the river; catfish good on shad in the river and on the south side.
▪ SHAWNEE MISSION: 58 degrees, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows near the dock; bass fair on spinnerbaits in the shallows; catfish good on worms, cut bait; bass fair on jigs, spinnerbaits, plastic baits.
▪ MELVERN: High 50s, murky, 2 feet low. Outlook: Melvern Lake Marina reports: crappies poor to fair on jigs in 10 to 18 feet of water off the marina docks; channel catfish fair in 10 to 15 feet of water in channels.
▪ HERITAGE: 56 degrees, murky, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Recreation District reports: catfish fair on worms, stinkbait along the dam.
▪ TUTTLE CREEK: High 50s, clear, 2 1/2 feet low. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: bass fair to good on jigs; crappies good on jigs in the evening (fish are starting to move in for spawn); white bass fair to good in the river between the lake and Waterville; catfish very good on shad.
▪ EL DORADO: High 50s near the dam, 60s on upper end, muddy on upper end, clear on the main lake, 2 feet low. Outlook: Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reports: crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows (fish are starting to move into the shallows to spawn); walleyes fair on jigs off windy points; white bass fair to good trolling crankbaits, casting jigs along riprap and points; catfish fair on shad along windy banks.
▪ PERRY: High 50s, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Tightlines Bait and Tackle reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows (fish are moving toward the banks); catfish poor to fair.
▪ COFFEY COUNTY: Mid 50s, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Coffey County reports: smallmouth, white bass fair to good.
▪ LA CYGNE: 65 degrees at the dam, 75 degrees at hot-water outlet, clear, 1 foot high. Outlook: Linn County Parks reports: crappies fair; white bass, wipers poor to fair (a few are being caught).
▪ CLINTON: 58 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reports: crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows in shallow brush and rocky areas; white bass fair to good on jigs, spinners.
Other area waters
▪ GRAND (OKLA.): 61 degrees, fairly clear on the main lake, muddy in the creeks, high. Outlook: Honey Creek Outdoors reports: paddlefish snagging good in the Twin Bridges area; bass excellent on jerkbaits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs along spawning banks; crappies excellent on plastic baits, feather jigs, minnows along spawning banks and docks; white bass fair on plastic baits in the rivers.
▪ WHITE RIVER (ARK.): Clear, heavy power generation in the morning. Outlook: Gaston’s White River Resort reports: rainbow trout good on Thomas Buoyant Spoons or drift night crawlers, pink glow worms with a yellow Power Egg; brown trout good on suspending jerkbaits, countdown Rapalas.

Brent’s best bet
The fishing at Table Rock Lake is hot right now. Excellent fishing for largemouth, Kentucky and smallmouth bass has been reported as the fish get ready to move shallow to spawn. Good numbers of white bass also are being caught as the fish make their spawning run up tributaries.
