Fishing report for March 25

Missouri

▪ TRUMAN: Low 50s, clear, near normal. Outlook: Bucksaw Marina reports: crappies good to excellent slow-trolling minnows 2 to 5 feet down in the creeks. Cody’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good on jigs, minnows 15 feet down in 25 feet of water in the brush; catfish good on jug lines with cut shad. Below the dam: Cody’s Bait and Tackle reports: white bass, wipers fair on crappie jigs; catfish fair on cut shad.

▪ NORFORK: 56 degrees, clear in the creeks, off-color on the main lake, 1 foot high. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: bass good on small plastic baits in 15 to 20 feet of water; walleyes fair to good on jerkbaits in the rivers; crappies poor to fair (fish are moving toward the banks).

▪ TANEYCOMO: Clear, one-half unit running most of the day. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: Trophy Area: trout good on midges, scuds (size 18) or micro jigs with a fly dropper. Below Fall Creek: trout good on minows, white jigs.

▪ STOCKTON: 54 degrees, clear on the main lake, stained in the creeks, 2 feet low. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows in less than 10 feet of water; walleyes fair to good on jerkbaits in 12 to 15 feet of water off main-lake points; bass fair on jerkbaits, jigs less than 12 feet deep along rocky banks; white bass very good on spinners in the creeks.

▪ LONGVIEW: 50 degrees, 47-inch clarity, 1 foot low. Outlook: Longview Lake Marina reports: crappies good on jigs (red and chartreuse has been the best color pattern) off the marina docks and near the Highgrove Bridge; bass fair on plastic baits off the marina docks and in the timber.

▪ TABLE ROCK: 49 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: white bass good on Alabama jigs, small jerkbaits in the Kings and James river arms at dawn and dusk; largemouth, spotted bass poor to fair (a few are being caught on jerkbaits off windy points).

▪ POMME DE TERRE: 45 degrees at the dam, 54 degrees on the upper lake, clear, 2 1/2 feet low. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: bass fair to good on jerkbaits in the shallows; crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows; walleyes fair on crankbaits in the rocky shallows; muskies fair on jerkbaits in the shallows.

▪ REED AREA: 52 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: trout fair on PowerBait, minnows; crappies fair on jigs under bobbers.

▪ SMITHVILLE: 42 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows in 20 feet of water in the Highway W Bridge area and off the docks at Camp Branch Marina.

▪ JACOMO: 46-48 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Jacomo Marina reports: crappies fair to good on marabou jigs off the marina docks.

▪ LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 42 degrees, clear, 4 1/2 feet low. Outlook: Ozark Anglers.com reports: paddlefish snagging fair; bass fair on suspending stickbaits; crappies fair in the brush along docks.

▪ BULL SHOALS: 51 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: 125 Marina reports: largemouth bass fair on jerkbaits, crankbaits in 8 to 10 feet of water along windy banks.

▪ BLUE SPRINGS: High 40s, clear, normal. Outlook: Blue Springs Lake Marina report: all species poor.

Kansas

▪ WILSON: 45 clear, 8 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s reports: stripers, white bass, white perch good on jigs, worms, minnows from the bank in the western part of lake and Hell Creek; catfish good on shad.

▪ WYANDOTTE: 50 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Wyandotte Boats reports: trout good on a variety of baits lakewide; channel catfish good in the evening on worms, liver along the Grassy Slope and off Stotler Point.

▪ KILL CREEK: 56 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: trout good throughout the day on yellow PowerBait, Little Cleos, night crawlers; crappies, bass fair to good on jigs; walleyes fair on crankbaits.

▪ SHAWNEE MISSION: 54 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: trout good throughout the day on yellow PowerBait, silver and blue Little Cleos, night crawlers; bass good on crankbaits.

▪ MELVERN: 41 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Melvern Lake Marina reports: crappies good on minnows, small spoons in 14 to 18 feet of water in the brush around the marina docks.

▪ MILFORD: High 40s, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: catfish excellent on shad; white bass fair trolling small baits off shallow points; walleyes fair on jerbaits, twisters along the face of the dam at dusk.

▪ CLINTON: 48 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Clinton Marina reports: crappies good on black and white jigs in the evening off marina docks.

▪ HILLSDALE: High 40s, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: crappies fair to good on jigs off the marina docks; channel catfish fair on shad.

▪ TUTTLE CREEK: High 40s, fairly clear, 21/2 feet low. Outlook: Guide Vice Oertle reports: white bass fair to good on the upper end; catfish good on shad.

▪ EL DORADO: 48 degrees, clear, 21/2 feet low. Outlook: Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reports: crappies fair to good on jigs 15 to 18 feet of water along channel edges and ledges; white bass fair to good on jigs, crankbaits in creek channels; walleyes fair on jigs, crankbaits in rocky areas; channel catfish fair on shad sides in the windy shallows.

▪ PERRY: 45 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Tightlines Bait, Tackle and Trapping reports: crappies fair on jigs in 10 to 12 feet of water (fish are scattered); channel catfish fair on shad sides in the shallows.

▪ COFFEY COUNTY: Mid 50s, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Coffey County reports: white bass fair to good on twisters, spinners, jigging spoons in rocky areas; wipers fair; smallmouth bass fair.

▪ LA CYGNE: 60s, clear, normal. Outlook: Linn County Parks reports: bass poor to fair (a few are being caught on jig and pig, crankbaits).

▪ POMONA: 44 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Lighthouse Harbor Marina reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows off the marina docks.

▪ GLEN ELDER: High 40s, clear, degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Wayne’s Sporting Goods reports: all species poor.

Other area waters

▪ GRAND (OKLA.): 48 degrees, fairly clear, normal. Outlook: Grand Fishing Report.com reports: white bass good on 2-inch Go-Go Minnows in the Twin Bridges area; catfish fair to good on cut shad in 5 to 20 feet of water; crappies fair to good on jigs in 5 to 15 feet of water in the evening.

▪ WHITE RIVER (ARK.): Clear, 2 to 3 units running in the morning, then generation drops. Outlook: Gaston’s White River Resort reports: fly fishing: trout good on pearl or zebra midges, sow bugs, olive woolly buggers when there is low water and wading conditions are good; on pink or red San Juan worms when there is current. Spin fishing: trout good on stickbaits, countdown Rapalas early when there is current, and on Power Eggs, pink PowerBait worms, Buoyant Spoons and spinners when current drops off.

▪ BEAVER (ARK.): High 40s, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Joe Farkas Striper Guide Service reports: stripers fair on shiners, big gizzard shad in 30 feet of water and deeper trolling in the mid-lake area (stripers weighing 32 and 20 pounds were caught on a guide trip Saturday); walleyes good on Berkeley Flicker Shad crankbaits below the dam.

Brent’s best bet

The crappie fishing has been excellent lately at Truman Lake. Guides have been slow-trolling with minnows and getting their customers quick limits of nice-sized fish.
