Fishing report for March 12

▪ TANEYCOMO: Clear, low power generation. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: Trophy Area: trout good on jigs, microjigs 6 feet under floats; also on olive wooly buggers. Below Fall Creek: trout good on a variety of baits.

▪ TABLE ROCK: 40 degrees, clear, 4 feet low. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: bass good on paddletail grubs on one-quarter-ounce jigheads 25 feet down in 50 feet of water in pole timber off main-lake points.

▪ REED AREA: 46 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Department of Conservation reports: trout good on PowerBait, spoons, Rooster Tails; crappies fair on jigs under bobbers. Coot and Plover were each stocked with 1,000 brown trout Monday.

▪ SMITHVILLE: 39 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Ice in coves, but boat ramps are accessible. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies good on jigs in brush along riprap in the Camp Branch arm, also off docks at Camp Branch Marina.

▪ TRUMAN: 37 degrees, clear, 1/2 foot high. Outlook: Cody’s Bait and Tackle reports: crappies fair to good on jigs in 15 to 18 feet down in 30 feet of water in the brush. Below the dam: crappies,white bass, hybrids fair in the old channel below the dam.

▪ JACOMO: High 30s, clear, normal. Outlook: Jacomo Marina reports: crappies fair to good on jigging spoons off the marina docks.

▪ LONGVIEW: 40 degrees, 47-inch clarity, 1 foot low. Outlook: Longview Lake Marina reports: crappies fair to good on jigs in 25 feet of water in brush around marina docks.

▪ STOCKTON: 40 degrees, clear, 4 feet low. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: crappies fair to good on jigs in 40 to 50 feet of water under shad schools; walleyes fair on large shiners in up to 70 feet of water under shad; bass fair on crankbaits, jigs in 15 to 18 feet of water.

▪ BULL SHOALS: 45 degrees, clear, 41/2 feet low. Outlook: 125 Marina reports: Kentucky, smallmouth bass fair on swimbaits along windy banks three-quarters of the way back in coves.

▪ NORFORK: Low 40s, clear, 4 feet low. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: stripers poor to fair (a few are being caught in deep water).

▪ POMME DE TERRE: 37 degrees, clear, 3 feet low. Outlook: Muskie Guide Service reports: crappies poor to fair on minnows, jigs in 30 to 40 feet of water over brush.

▪ LAKE OF THE OZARKS: 37 degrees, clear, 6 feet low. Outlook: Gier’s Bass Pro reports: all species poor.

▪ BLUE SPRINGS: High 30s, clear, normal. Outlook: Blue Springs Lake Marina report: all species poor.

Kansas

▪ POMONA: 38 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Lighthouse Harbor Marina reports: crappies very good on jigs in 12 to 15 feet of water off the marina docks.

▪ MELVERN: 38 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Melvern Marina reports: crappies good on Kastmasters, ice jigs in 18 to 20 feet off B Dock at marina.

▪ WILSON: 40 degrees, clear, 8 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s reports: white perch, stripers good in Hell Creek area; white bass, walleyes fair but scattered.

▪ KILL CREEK: 43 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: trout good early on PowerBait, spinners, Little Cleos, air-inflated night crawlers.

▪ SHAWNEE MISSION: 45 degrees, clear, normal. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: trout good early on PowerBait, spinners, Little Cleos and air-inflated night crawlers.

▪ CLINTON: 38 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Clinton Marina reports: crappies fair to good on chartreuse jigs off marina docks and in by boat in Marina Cove.

▪ LA CYGNE: 60s at hot-water outlet, 40s on the main lake, clear, normal. Outlook: Linn County Parks reports: crappies fair but scattered; bass fair on finesse baits.

▪ GLEN ELDER: 37 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Wayne’s Sporting Goods reports: white bass fair on minnows.

▪ EL DORADO: 37 degrees, clear, 21/2 feet low. Outlook: Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reports: crappies, white bass poor to fair.

▪ COFFEY COUNTY: Power plant is down for routine maintenance, water temperatures are dropping, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Coffey County reports: all species poor.

▪ PERRY: High 30s, clear, normal. Outlook: Perry Tightlines Bait and Tackle reports: crappies poor to fair.

▪ MILFORD: Mid 30s, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: Very little fishing pressure. No reports available.

▪ HILLSDALE: 37 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: all species poor.

▪ TUTTLE CREEK: High 30s, dingy, 1 foot high. Outlook: Guide Vice Oertle reports: all species poor.

Other area waters

▪ GRAND (OKLA.): Low 40s, fairly clear, normal. Outlook: Pritchard’s Guide Service reports: paddlefish snagging good to excellent along the main river channel; white bass good on chartreuse and white Go-Go Minnows in the Spring and Neosho rivers crappies good on Go-Go Minnows, Crappie Kickers in 10 feet of water in the brush along docks; blue catfish fair to good on shad on the mud flats.

▪ WHITE RIVER (ARK.): Clear, variable power generation. Outlook: Gaston’s White River Resort reports: fly fishing: trout excellent on white or pink jigs, streamers and sculpin pattern flies. Ruby midges and squirrel nymphs also have worked. Spin fishing: trout good on 1/8-ounce white or white-gray jigs. Brown trout good on stickbaits, Rapalas.

▪ BEAVER (ARK.): Low 40s, clear, low. Outlook: Joe Farkas Striper Guide Service reports: stripers fair on live shad or shiners in the river.

Brent’s best bet

The area crappie fishing is beginning to heat up. In Kansas, the dock fishing has been good at Pomona, Melvern and Clinton lakes. In Missouri, limits of keepers have been caught along the riprap at Smithville Lake.
