Jack Sock is two victories from a gold medal in tennis.

Sock and Steve Johnson defeated David Ferrer and Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro.

Sock and Johnson advanced to today’s semifinals against fifth-seeded Horia Tecau and Florin Mergea of Romania. If Sock and Johnson lose that match, they can win the bronze medal with a victory in the third-place match.

The gold- and bronze-medal doubles matches will be Friday.

Sock, who played in high school at Blue Valley North, also is playing mixed doubles, which begins today. He and Bethanie Mattek-Sands will face Great Britain’s Jamie Murray and Johanna Konta in the first round.
