The Mavericks own a 8-0 record at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena heading into a three-game homestand this weekend.

They’ll play host to the Cincinnati Cyclones for the first time in franchise history on Friday and Saturday and the Quad City Mallards at 4:05 p.m. Sunday. This is the first time the Mavericks will host three games in three days this season.

The Mavericks will give away youth jerseys on Friday night to the first 750 fans age 14 and under. On Saturday, the Mavs are celebrating Star Wars Night, with more than 20 costumed characters walking the concourse before the game and participating in promotions and contests throughout the night.

The three-game weekend wraps up Sunday afternoon with an adult jersey giveaway to the first 1,500 fans in attendance (age 15 and older).

End of the streak

The Mavs’ 14-game win streak came to a close on Sunday with a 4-3 loss at Tulsa.

“It’s tough to take a loss when you want to keep that win streak going,” said Mavs coach Richard Matvichuk. “The guys on the ice wanted to earn that next ‘W’ as much for the fans as they did for each other.

“We have not let it affect us or our play. We’ve prepared for a big weekend at home and we are ready to start a new streak.”

The streak was the longest in franchise history and the fourth-longest in ECHL history.

Mystery auction planned

A “Mystery Bag Silent Auction” event on Saturday will raise money for Bags of Fun KC, a Kansas City charity.

Bags of Fun KC delivers bags filled with toys and other items to pediatric patients undergoing cancer treatment, kidney dialysis and heart, liver and kidney transplants. The Mavs brought holiday gift bags to several patients earlier this week, and helped volunteers shop for gifts to pack future Bags of Fun.

“It was such a rewarding experience to be a part of this organization’s mission even just for one day,” said Tim Vieira, the Mavs’ manager of community relations. “Our players have always been vested in our community-outreach programs, but it was truly a special day to see them interact with the patients and take time to make each visit memorable.”

Inspired by the work of Bags of Fun KC, the Mavs decided to host a silent auction in which fans will bid on mystery items that are already wrapped for the holidays. The auction will take place on the concourse behind Section 107 during the first two periods of the game.
