The Kansas City Mavericks continue to own the ice in Kids Day hockey games — wherever they’re played.

One week after clipping the Idaho Steelheads 5-2 in a Kids Day contest on home ice at Cable Dahmer Arena, the Mavericks went on the road Wednesday and beat the Wichita Thunder 5-1 in a lunchtime showdown at Intrust Bank Arena in Wichita.

Goals by Nolan Sullivan and Jackson Jutting got the Mavs off to a 2-0 start. Before it was over, KC’s Zach Uens, Jimmy Glynn and Landon McCallum had scored, too.

The Mavericks (6-4) are now 3-0 this season in Kids Day games played at various venues around the ECHL.

This particular Mavericks road trip was a very short one. But while the venue changes for their next match, the opponent won’t: KC returns to Cable Dahmer Arena Friday and Saturday for a pair of evening home games against Wichita.

Saturday’s game promises to be a special evening at the venue in Independence, as it’s Star Wars Night. The Mavericks will be giving away 2,500 Lightsabers, players will wear exclusive Star Wars–themed jerseys and the matchup against the Thunder will be followed by a post-game skate.

After those two games, the Mavericks return to the road for a pair of contests against the Rapid City Rush in Rapid City, South Dakota.

A week ago, the Mavericks led 4-0 after one period. They got two goals apiece from McCallum and Bobo Carpenter in beating Idaho. Luke Loheit also scored.
