Kansas City Mavericks are rolling — thanks, in part, to ECHL Goaltender of the Week
The Kansas City Mavericks remain one of the hottest teams in the ECHL, boasting a 9-1-1 record in their last 11 games. They currently sit atop the Mountain Division with 67 points, continuing to push toward a playoff berth.
A major factor in KC’s success has been the stellar goaltending of Jack LaFontaine, who was named ECHL Goaltender of the Week for his play from February 10-16.
LaFontaine posted a perfect 3-0-0 record, including a shutout win against Tulsa, while stopping 76 of 79 shots and recording an impressive .962 save percentage.
Three-game home series against Allen awaits
The Mavericks return home for a crucial three-game series against the Allen Americans on February 19, 21 and 22 at Cable Dahmer Arena.
Saturday’s game (Feb. 22) will feature First Responders Night, honoring the brave men and women who serve the community. First responder units from both Missouri and Kansas will have vehicles displayed outside the arena before the game, including firetrucks, squad cars and an ambulance.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office will present the color guard, and first responder vehicles will also make an appearance on the ice during intermissions.
The Mavericks have just five home games left in February. Tickets are available at kcmavericks.com/tickets or by calling 816-252-7825.
Community events upcoming
The Mavericks remain active in the Kansas City community with several events lined up.
On Tuesday, February 18, players were set to visit Jami Cardwell’s 3rd-grade class at Voy Spears Jr. Elementary as part of Mac’s Power Play Reading Club. The class logged the most reading minutes in January in earning a visit from the team.
Fans will also have a chance to hear either in person or over the airwaves from the Mavericks’ coaching staff and players at the monthly Coaches Show on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 7-8 p.m. at Llywelyn’s Pub.
Head coach Tad O’Had, associate coach Riley Weselowski and goaltender/video coach Rob Couturier will be joined by players Damien Giroux, Max Andreev and Jack LaFontaine for a night of food, hockey talk and exclusive giveaways. The Coaches Show can be heard on Sports Radio 810 WHB.
The Mavericks will wrap up the month with a volunteer event at Giving the Basics on February 24, where they will tour the facility and assist in packaging hygiene kits for those in need.
