Kansas City Mavericks will have some backup as they prepare for 3 games vs. Idaho

A rare week off from game action gave the Kansas City Mavericks plenty of time to rest and recuperate after getting off to one of the best starts in team history.

Currently second in the ECHL Western Conference standings, the Mavericks are 23-7-1 (47 points) nearing the halfway mark of the season. Kansas City’s 23 victories mark the second-highest win total in the ECHL this season.

Kansas City is currently on a six-game winning streak and will look to tie its longest streak this season when the team returns to game action on Wednesday in Idaho.

The team currently has a litany of star players who are at or near the top of ECHL leaderboards this season, including Max Andreev, Patrick Curry and Cade Borchardt — all ranking in the top 10 in points. Additionally, Andreev and Borchardt rank Nos. 1 and 2 in scoring among all rookies.

Max Andreev the Mavericks All-Star

Last week, Max Andreev was named to the 2024 ECHL All-Star team. The rookie from Cornell leads the team in points and tops all ECHL first-year players with 37 points (nine goals, 28 assists). Andreev also ranks second in the ECHL in assists.

The 2024 ECHL All-Star Game is January 15 in Savannah, Georgia.

Community Challenge in January

With six home games in January, the Mavericks are hoping to support a community partner with help from fans at Cable Dahmer Arena

The team is partnering with Giving the Basics for a donation drive at each home game this month. Fans are encouraged to bring in shampoo, conditioner and deodorant to donate to Giving the Basics throughout the month. Mavericks players are using the donation drive as a friendly competition to see which player can secure the most donated items.

Skills competition

With the break from game action, the Mavericks hosted their annual Skills Competition on Friday night. A free event for the public, the entire Mavericks roster showcased its on-ice skills to the Mavs faithful prior to the second half of the season.

Mavericks’ roster gets a boost

The Mavericks’ roster got another boost this week.

The Coachella Valley Firebirds, Kansas City’s AHL affiliate, assigned forward Jeremy McKenna to the Mavericks. McKenna, 24, played in 36 games for the Mavericks last season, posting 22 goals and 21 assists. McKenna ranks fifth in team history in single-season points per game.

McKenna is expected to join the Mavericks for their three-game set in Idaho this week.

Up next on the schedule

Kansas City travels to Idaho for three games this week before coming back to Kansas City for six games at Cable Dahmer Arena in the month of January, beginning on January 19.
