Mavericks’ home stand ends with 3-2 loss to Oilers

The Missouri Mavericks fell behind early and couldn’t catch up in a 3-2 loss to the Tulsa Oilers on Monday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

The defeat was the Mavericks’ first in regulation at home since November 30. Missouri is now 10-12-5 this season.

Tulsa struck twice in the first period, with both goals scored by Emerson Clark. Clark’s first goal came 17:28 into the period, and he added another one 50 seconds later on a five-on-three power play.

Missouri’s Dane Fox cut the margin to 2-1 when he scored 46 seconds into the second period. Oilers goalie Jamie Phillips made a save on a shot by Darren Nowick, but Fox jabbed the puck past Phillips.

The Oilers regained their two-goal lead when Garrett Ladd scored on a power play 5:13 into the third period. The Mavericks’ Kyle Schempp deflected in a shot by Matt Finn at 18:48 for the game’s final goal.

Josh Robinson, the reigning ECHL goalie of the year, got the start in net for the Mavericks after Ville Husso made back-to-back starts against the Alaska Aces over the weekend. Robinson made 35 saves against the Oilers.

The Mavericks’ next game will be 7:05 p.m. Friday in Wichita.
