Mavericks hit road to Florida with momentum thanks to midweek win over Allen

The Missouri Mavericks scored three times in the opening period to beat the Allen Americans 5-3 and claim some momentum as they embark on ther first road trip to Florida.

The Mavericks (4-7-1) took the victory on home ice at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in their inaugural Education Day Game, which started at 11:30 a.m. They play the Florida Everblades in Estero, Fla., on Saturday.

Missouri got its first goal on a Ryan Obuchowski wrister and eight minutes later scored two more in a span of just 30 seconds. Justin Selman and Kevin Tansey, who arrived Monday on loan from the Chicago Wolves, each played a role in the burst.

Selman tapped a loose puck home from atop the crease, and on the next shift Tansey blasted a point shot that created a rebound for Darren Nowick to put in the net. It was the first professional point for Tansey.

Tanner Eberle deflected a point shot in the third to make it 4-3 and Kyle Schempp scored the Mavs’ final goal on an empty-netter after exiting the box for a tripping minor.

Goalie Eamon McAdam stopped 35 shots and earned his second pro win.

The Mavs were 1-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.

Their next home game is Nov. 30 against Allen.
