Mavericks gear up for biggest fundraiser of the year ... by painting aprons with kids
Missouri Mavericks hockey players spent some time with kids this week, decorating aprons. You read that right: decorating aprons.
The sharp departure from sticks and pucks took place on Tuesday at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City in Independence. It was a key part of the team’s leadup to its biggest fundraiser of the year: the 8th Annual Dinner on Ice event that’s scheduled for Nov. 9 at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
The aprons, painted by the players and children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, will be auctioned off for charity the night of the dinner.
“They were happy I think that we were here, and we were happy to be here,” said Mavericks defender Tyler Elbrecht.
Players will first wear the aprons as they serve dinner to their guests that evening. Proceeds from the event will benefit the nearly 8,000 KC-area kids served by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City.
