Chiefs hamstrung by hamstrings times seven; kickers alternate days
The Chiefs listed seven players were either missed all or part of practice on Saturday because of hamstring issues. Most are wide receivers and cornerbacks, the players who play the quick-twitch positions.
“I’m not that worried about it,” said head coach Andy Reid. “They’re not ones the guys can’t fix and come back fairly quick. You’re going to get tight hamstrings … the guys run a lot, we play a lot of bump and run … so the receivers are running … You work through that, and we’re going to be fine.”
Cairo Santos’ turn to kick
There’s nothing wrong with Chiefs place kicker Ryan Succop. He spent almost all of Saturday’s practice in pads with a baseball cap while rookie Cairo Santos handled the small amount of field goal work.
It will be Succop’s turn on Sunday.
“This was (Santos’) day,” Reid said of the first time the two kickers are alternating full practices. “There’s no injury.”
Fulton fills right guard spot
Rookie Zach Fulton, a sixth-round draft pick from Tennessee, has worked his way into the first team offense at right guard, filling the spot vacated in free agency by Geoff Schwartz and Jon Asamoah.
The rotation with Rishaw Johnson appears over for now.
“He’s played solid football,” Reid said, “probably a little better than we anticipated from where we picked him. He’s come in, and he’s been very intelligent and tough.”
