Chiefs Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry was unable to practice Friday morning because of what the club called an injury to his right heel that occurred on Thursday.

Malcolm Bronson, who spent his rookie season on the Chiefs’ practice squad last year, started in Berry’s spot.

Left cornerback Marcus Cooper was back on the field after suffering a slight hamstring pull on Thursday.

However, the injury list on Friday was a long one: wide receivers A.J. Jenkins, Mark Harrison and Junior Hemmingway and defensive lineman Jermelle Cudjo did not practice because of hamstring injuries; nor did defensive end Mike Catapano (illness).

Tight end Demetrius Harris was excused from practice, the Chiefs said.

During practice, wide receiver Kyle Williams and running back Charcandrick West left the field with hamstring issues.

Also, trainer Rick Burkholder provided an update on defensive back Sanders Commings, who had surgery to repair a high ankle sprain. It was also determined that Commings needed surgery for a broken fibula.

“He’s got some rehab ahead of him,” Burkholder said.
