Chiefs sign football newbie Tautvydas Kieras as linebacker (with video)
The Chiefs continue their quest to look for good football players in unorthodox places.
One week after they signed defensive end Efe Obada, a Nigerian with zero college football experience, on Friday the club announced it has signed Tautvydas “T.K.” Kieras, a Lithuanian discus thrower from Mississippi State who has not played a down of football in his life.
Kieras, 24, is an outside linebacker listed at 6-foot-3 and 271 pounds. He had an impressive showing at Mississippi State’s pro day last week, running a 4.69 40-yard dash with a 35 inch vertical leap and 116 inch broad jump, according to the school’s website. He also bench-pressed 225 pounds 24 times.
Kieras began training for football in January. He set the school record for the discus throw in 2015, when he completed his track and field eligibility at Mississippi State.
