A pair of young athletes representing the Chiefs were awarded national championships in the NFL’s annual Punt, Pass & Kick competition on Sunday in Seattle.

Dylan Downing of Lenexa and Macy Richardson of Tecumseh, Neb., won the Boys 12-13 and Girls 8-9 divisions, respectively, and were recognized during the Seahawks’ win over the Carolina Panthers at CenturyLink Field. A total of 10 youths from across the country were honored as national champs during the national broadcast.

All 40 finalists were provided airfare, hotel accommodations and tickets to the Seahawks-Panthers game.

Scores were based on distance and accuracy as hopefuls competed through local, sectional, team and then national rounds during the NFL regular season. In the national finals on Saturday at Seahawks headquarters in Renton, Wash., each entrant was scored on two punts, passes and kicks.

Past competitors in the Punt, Pass & Kick competition include Chiefs coach Andy Reid, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Hall of Famers Troy Aikman and Dan Marino.
