New turf and a closed roof for Chiefs-Texans game
Same building as the season opener, but new turf.
The Chiefs and Texans are playing their AFC Wild Card playoff game on artificial turf. When the Chiefs beat the Texans in September in NRG Stadium, the game was played on grass.
The opener was the only game this season played on the real stuff, which had been used since the stadium opened in 2002. But seams were exposed, making the footing uneven, and some Chiefs complained about the field after the game.
The Texans played the remained of their home games on artificial turf.
The roof at NRG Stadium will be closed for the game, the Texans announced Saturday. It was closed for the teams’ regular season meeting.
