Chiefs coach Andy Reid congratulates Royals on World Series championship
The opening statement from Chiefs coach Andy Reid on Monday morning included a typical rundown of talking points — injury updates, a brief recap of a football game and a synopsis of the upcoming week.
Then, one more topic: The Kansas City Royals.
A day after the Royals defeated the New York Mets for their first World Series championship since 1985, Reid concluded his opening statement with the media Monday with a congratulatory message.
“Lastly, a pretty important thing: Congratulations goes out to the Royals, man. Phenomenal. I mean, you’re talking about the world champions,” Reid said.
“That’s an unbelievable feat. Their skipper, Ned Yost, the great job that he did bringing that thing together. The Glass family for really putting the whole thing together. Dayton Moore for bringing in all those players. What a great tribute. They showed great grit. That last couple innings there, putting everything together — pretty impressive.”
Chiefs get flexed
The Chiefs won’t be making an appearance later this month on “Sunday Night Football.”
The Chiefs’ game with the San Diego Chargers on Nov. 22 has been moved to 3:05 p.m. It will be replaced by a matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals. The Bengals are 7-0, and the Cardinals are 6-2.
The NFL used its flexible scheduling option the first week it was available this season. Week 11 is the earliest the NFL can switch out the Sunday night games.
The key NFC North matchup between the Packers and Vikings on Nov. 22 will also switch from noon to 3:25 p.m. on Fox.
The league also said Monday that the Nov. 15 game between the Bears and Rams will move from Fox to CBS. This is the second season the NFL can “cross-flex” some Sunday afternoon games from one network to the other.
