Lions have past experience in London, unlike Chiefs
This is the Lions' second trip to London in two years, so in that area, at least, they've got a distinct edge on the Chiefs, who will be making their first trip this week as a part of the league's International Series.
But Detroit coach Jim Caldwell, whose team defeated the Atlanta Falcons 22-21 at Wembley Stadium last October, isn't sure their prior experience in London will prove to be such a big advantage.
“One of the things you learn very quickly in this league is that there aren't many edges to be gained other than fine play,” Caldwell said. “That's what makes a difference.”
Lions receiver Golden Tate is a little more optimistic, however.
“We are familiar with the territory … yeah, I think we do have a little bit of an edge because we experienced this last year,” Tate said. “We know the setup, we know the stadium, we know what to expect through the week. We’ve been here since Monday, so our body clocks are starting to dial in.”
The Chiefs are scheduled to leave Kansas City on Thursday evening and arrive in London on Friday morning.
