Two top picks in 2013 NFL Draft will face off in Chiefs-Lions game

One of the more intriguing battles of Sunday’s game between the Chiefs and the Lions will occur to the left of quarterback Alex Smith.

That’s where left tackle Eric Fisher, the No. 1 overall pick in 2013, will face off against Detroit edge rusher Ziggy Ansah, the No. 5 overall pick of the same draft.

“I think I’ll mainly be going against No. 72 (Fisher), and the most interesting thing about that is that we all came out the same year,” Ansah said. “So I’m just looking forward to that matchup.”

Ansah, who said he didn’t have much communication with Fisher throughout the draft process, was vague when asked if he had any impressions of Fisher this year.

“No impression,” Ansah said. “I’m going on there to go 100 miles an hour and see if he can stop me or not.”

Ansah, who is listed at 6 feet 5 and 278 pounds, has been a consistent playmaker since his rookie year, when he logged eight sacks. He had 7 1/2 last season and now has six this year, putting him on pace to finish with at least 13.

After struggling as a rookie in 2013, Fisher started all 16 games for the Chiefs at left tackle last season and was slightly better. A preseason high ankle sprain and the emergence of Donald Stephenson precipitated his move to right tackle at the start of the season, but Fisher was shifted back to left tackle in the Chiefs’ 23-13 win over Pittsburgh last Sunday and was part of a remade offensive line that was praised by coach Andy Reid for its play.
