Ex-Missouri offensive tackle Justin Britt fitting in just fine with Seattle
The Seattle Seahawks used a second-round pick in May to select former Missouri offensive tackle Justin Britt, with the hope he could compete with Michael Bowie for the starting right tackle position.
Halfway through the season, however, the job is clearly Britt’s. He has started all nine games for the Seahawks, who ended up releasing Bowie in training camp.
“He had an opportunity right off the bat,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. “First day of practice the guy that was ahead of him got banged up and he jumped in there and it was really the Wally Pipp story for him. He jumped in there and never looked back.”
Britt has taken his share of lumps this year — he’s allowed a team-high 24 quarterback hurries — but Carroll praised the 6-foot-6, 325-pounder’s work ethic and dedication to get better.
“He’s been a great kid, he’s studied like crazy, he’s taken the responsibly to heart, he’s fit in beautifully with our guys and he’s played really good football,” Carroll said. “He’s just getting started, he’s going to continue to improve and get better and better and better. So we are really pleased with him and fortunate to have him.”
