The Chiefs activated inside linebacker Joe Mays from recallable injured reserve on Saturday and waived linebacker Jerry Franklin.

Mays, who joined the Chiefs as a free agent in March but suffered torn tendons in his wrist during preseason, was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return. The Chiefs had until the end of next week to activate him.

Franklin played primarily on special teams with the Chiefs after joining the club early in the season.
