‘Arrowhead Sports Complex,’ ‘Kingdom Commons’ among new Chiefs trademark filings

The Kansas City Chiefs have filed for a handful of new trademarks that nod toward the team’s future home in Kansas.

On Thursday, the team filed six new trademark requests with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, according to the federal government’s trademark database:

The trademark filings give a window into potential names that could be attached to the team’s new facilities in Kansas, including the new Chiefs stadium and entertainment district in Wyandotte County. A new team headquarters and a practice facility are expected to be built in Olathe. The team is expected to first play in the new stadium in the 2031 NFL season.

In a statement sent to The Star, a team spokesperson said, “We are extremely pleased with the progress we’ve made to reach this point and are excited about what’s ahead. As part of our normal business operations, we regularly evaluate and take steps to protect our intellectual property. In this case, we have taken proactive measures to register a number of potential trademarks that may or may not end up being used in conjunction with the stadium, practice facility, or the mixed-use developments surrounding those projects.”

‘63 Entertainment is an apparent reference to the franchise’s first season in Kansas City in 1963. The Arrowhead trademarks indicate the team is considering bringing the name of the team’s longtime home in the Truman Sports Complex across the state line to Kansas in some capacity.
