According to the Wednesday’s official NFL transactions report, the Kansas City Chiefs opened two roster spots as the team looks ahead to this weekend’s rookie minicamp.

First, KC waived running back ShunDerrick Powell. The 23-year-old had only been with the team a few months after signing a reserve/futures contract in early January.

The undrafted free agent out of Central Arkansas spent last year’s training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles but was waived as they trimmed down to their 53-man roster.

After signing veteran running back Kenneth Walker in free agency, the Chiefs selected Nebraska’s Emmett Johnson in the fifth round of last week’s NFL Draft. Kansas City’s 2026 running backs room is projected to include Walker, Johnson, Emari Demercado and Brashard Smith.

The Chiefs also received an international roster exemption for offensive lineman Chukwuebuka “Chu” Godrick. He joined the Chiefs in 2023 via the NFL’s International Player Pathway (IPP) program.

With the team down several offensive linemen late last season, Godrick made four appearances (including three starts) at right tackle. Per Pro Football Focus, the 25-year-old allowed seven pressures over 129 pass-blocking snaps.

The Chiefs will hold a media session Friday around noon before opening rookie minicamp practice to media.
