With 2025 starters Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson now in the Los Angeles Rams’ secondary, the Kansas City Chiefs suddenly have a significant need at cornerback.
They began to address that need Thursday by signing now-former Miami Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou, a source confirmed to The Star.
Kohou, 27, signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2022 after going undrafted out of Texas A&M-Commerce. The 5-foot-10, 197-pound cornerback started 13 games for the Dolphins as a rookie.
In three seasons with Miami from 2022-24, Kohou appeared in 47 games (38 starts), compiling 180 tackles, 28 passes defensed and three interceptions. Ahead of what would have been a contract year in 2025, however, Kohou tore an ACL during training camp and missed the entire season.
Similar to the Chiefs’ recent signing of safety Alohi Gilman, Kohou offers the positional versatility that defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo covets.
When lined up at cornerback, Kohou spent nearly 69% of his time in the slot, compared to 31% out wide. He also saw time in the box.
Coming off a full season lost to injury, he should be motivated to carve out a role next to projected starting outside cornerbacks Kristian Fulton and Nohl Williams in nickel and dime packages for the Chiefs.
