  • Chiefs hired C.J. Cox to defensive quality-control, leveraging his college experience.
  • Team plans to hire Nate Pagan for quality control after 9 seasons coaching Villanova WRs.
  • Chiefs still seek two position coaches, for wide receivers and running backs.

Eric Bieniemy isn’t the only recent addition to the Chiefs’ coaching staff.

The team has dipped into the college ranks to hire a pair of quality control coaches.

C.J. Cox, who coached the safeties at Coastal Carolina last season, will work on the defensive side for KC head coach Andy Reid. Cox was with the Chiefs in 2022 and 2023 as part of the NFL’s Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship.

Cox also has coached at Alabama-Birmingham, Kent State, Montana, Sacramento State and UNLV, his alma mater. His hire was first reported by ESPN.

The Chiefs are also expected to hire Nate Pagan, according to CBSSports.com. Pagan spent the last nine seasons at Villanova, the last seven coaching wide receivers.

Pagan played at West Chester and his coaching career took him to a pair of Division III programs, SUNY Cortland and Stevenson, before his hire by Villanova.

In addition to Bieniemy’s return to the offensive coordinator’s role, announced earlier this week, the Chiefs remain in the market for a pair of position coaches to replace Connor Embree (wide receivers) and Todd Pinkston (running backs).
