Asked about Travis Kelce’s timetable for making a decision about his future, Andy Reid had his hand on the pulse of Chiefs fans.

“I know everybody wants an answer right this minute,” Reid said Monday.

Yes, they do.

It’s early in the week of the conclusion of Kelce’s 13th NFL season. And the prospect of extending his career at least one more season is one of the team’s biggest storylines in an offseason that started earlier than expected for the three-time defending AFC champion.

The Chiefs concluded the year with a 14-12 loss at the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday to finish 6-11. Kelce had two receptions in the game and became the third tight end to surpass 13,000 career receiving yards.

He remains one of the NFL’s most productive at his position. Kelce, 36, led the team in receptions with 76, receiving yards at 851 and shared the lead with five touchdown catches. There would seem to be plenty left in the tank.

When asked by The Star’s Sam McDowell about his decision timeline after Sunday’s game, Kelce said, “Who knows? Who knows? Either (a decision) hits me quick, or I gotta take some time. Last year was a little bit easier. I think I knew right away I wanted to give this (year) a shot.”

The Chiefs don’t seem inclined to press for a decision.

“You’ve got a little bit of time before all that stuff really needs to take place,” Reid said. “There are a lot of variables there.

“We all love Trav, we know that. Trav can still play. I’m not questioning that part or any of it. I just know there’s some time. It’s a little bit of the same way we looked (at it) last year. You’ve got a little bit of time to figure everything out.”
