Kansas City Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Chargers: Live updates, analysis from Week 15
The Kansas City Chiefs could officially be eliminated from playoff contention Sunday. And no matter what happens against the Los Angeles Chargers, things won’t be looking great heading into next week, either.
So what is there to play for? How about getting back on track and proving there’s still some fight left in this team. The Chiefs have been in free fall of late, losing four of five with their only win involving a double-digit fourth-quarter comeback that turned into an overtime win.
Here’s the good news: Kansas City is close. Of those four latest losses, three have been one-score games, and the same is true of six of KC’s seven losses on the season.
But this team has not been trending in the right direction at all, and the little things have stacked up against the Chiefs (6-7) over and over.
Will that change today? Here’s how to watch and listen to today’s Chiefs vs. Chargers game.

Three storylines for Chiefs-Chargers
1. The little things have gone against the Chiefs
Sometimes it’s not about making the spectacular play. It’s about making the simple one.
Like not dropping the football, something Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce struggled with last week. Like not committing penalties, something the Chiefs have done in a costlier way than any other NFL team. Like hitting the deep shots when they’re there, which KC’s all-world quarterback has been off on this year.
To steal a phrase from Andy Reid, the Chiefs need to clean it up. And they’re running out of time to do so.
2. Can the Chiefs stave off elimination?
If you’re a Chiefs fan, you’ve heard the scenarios of how KC can still make the postseason. You’re betting against a Phillip Rivers-led Colts team, hoping for the Chargers to lose the right combination of games and, of course, needing Kansas City to win out.
Possible? Yes. Likely? The odds get a lot better with a win Sunday, particularly if the Colts lose at the Seahawks later in the day. That’s a good starting point for this Chiefs team, on the doorstep of elimination.
3. Down some starters — and a new name
The Chiefs are still down the all-important positions of left and right tackle, and a new player is sidelined in receiver Hollywood Brown. The Chiefs hoped to be bolstered by the return of standout right guard Trey Smith, but he was ruled out by Reid late in the week.
Smith could have stabilized what has been an inconsistent O-line group this season — because of player availability as much as anything else.
Instead, the KC offense is about as depleted as it has been this season, which is saying something considering Josh Simmons missed time earlier this year while Rice began the season with a six-game suspension.
