Chiefs’ Wanya Morris is out for the season after injury vs. Texans, report says

Wanya Morris’ role as starting left tackle to finish the season lasted one play.

Morris suffered a knee injury on the first snap of the Chiefs’ 20-10 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium and will be lost for the season. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Morris, in his third pro season, was elevated to the role when Josh Simmons suffered a wrist injury in the previous game against the Dallas Cowboys. Simmons has had surgery.

In speaking to reporters Monday, Andy Reid said of Morris’s injury: “It does not look good.”

Morris was seen leaving the locker room on crutches after Sunday night’s game. Against the Texans, Esa Pole filled in for Morris, making his NFL debut.

Morris previously had been a starter for the Chiefs. He started four games as a rookie in 2023 and 11 last season.

The Chiefs have been dealing with several injuries to their offensive line in recent weeks. Right tackle Jawaan Taylor was inactive for the Houston game with an injury to his triceps. Jaylon Moore stepped in for Taylor.

Right guard Trey Smith has missed the past two games with a right ankle sprain, with Mike Caliendo filling in.
