  • Jaylon Moore started at left tackle; Chiefs went 3-1 during Simmons' absence
  • Simmons, No. 32 pick, expected to practice Wednesday, Nov. 12 before Broncos

Kansas City Chiefs rookie left tackle Josh Simmons has returned to the team facility after a four-game absence, a source confirmed to The Star. Jordan Schultz first reported the news.

Simmons was expected to play in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions but was ruled out as the club cited a “personal” designation. He missed every ensuing practice and game under that label.

In mid-October, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced that the team and Simmons had maintained positive communication, adding the rookie was away to take care of a family matter.

During Simmons’ absence, veteran lineman Jaylon Moore started for the Chiefs against the Lions, Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders — and then Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. Kansas City went 3-1 with Moore over that stretch.

Before the Week 8 Monday night game against the Commanders, Chiefs owner and CEO Clark Hunt declined to share specifics but said he was hopeful Simmons would be back at “some time in the future.”

It appears that time has come.

The Chiefs selected Simmons with the No. 32 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft. He signed a four-year, fully guaranteed rookie contract worth $14.7 million in early May.

The rookie performed well during the first five games of the season, finally solidifying the left tackle spot. With the Chiefs on their bye, they are next scheduled to practice Wednesday, Nov. 12, ahead of their Week 11 matchup with the Denver Broncos.

The current expectation is that Simmons will rejoin the team on the field that day.
