Chiefs fans gathered at the fountain at Mill Creek Park for a pep rally and to watch the water in the fountain turn Chiefs red. Chiefs mascot KC Wolf, Kansas City Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Parks-Shaw and 5th District Councilman at large Darrell Curls poured dye into the fountain’s pool and within seconds, an intense red stream sprayed from the fountain’s jets landing on the ornate sculptures that are part of the fountain.
Rumble, the drum ensemble that keeps Chiefs fans moving at the games, beat out their rhythms while flag bearers waved giant Chiefs flags at the traffic passing the park. Similar flags were being sold at the rally.
The Mill Creek Park Fountain was one of five fountains the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department dyed red to celebrate Red Friday. The others were the Northland Fountain, the Children’s Fountain, the Concourse Fountain and the Spirit of Freedom Fountain.
