  • Three Chiefs players, including Jawaan Taylor, start camp on PUP list.
  • Taylor and Kristian Fulton recover from knee injuries with no set return date.
  • Tight ends Jared Wiley and Jake Briningstool expected to fully participate.

The Kansas City Chiefs will begin with three players on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list at the start of training camp, coach Andy Reid said Sunday.

Tackle Jawaan Taylor, cornerback Kristian Fulton and tight end Tre Watson will not be practicing at the onset of camp.

“Everybody else is good to go,” Reid said in front of the team’s dorm room, Scanlon Hall, on Missouri Western’s campus. “We should be ripping and ready by (Monday).”

Taylor, the Chiefs’ starting right tackle, is recovering from offseason knee surgery. Meanwhile, Fulton — a free-agent signing and expected starter — also is out with a knee ailment.

Both Taylor and Fulton attended June’s mandatory minicamp in Kansas City but were limited in their participation.

“We’re hoping it’s relatively fast,” Reid said Sunday when asked about Taylor and Fulton’s returns from injury. “I’d tell you, Jawaan’s probably closer.”

Watson is an undrafted rookie tight end out of Texas A&M. He did not participate in the Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp because of an undisclosed injury.

Players on the PUP list do not participate in training camp practices until trainers clear them to return. If players are unable to come back during training camp, they can be placed on the reserve/PUP list, where they are required to sit out the first four weeks of the season.

Reid’s PUP list announcement Sunday also could be considered good news for a few players returning from injury — including a pair of tight ends.

Jared Wiley, a Chiefs 2024 fourth-round draft pick, appears to be ready after tearing his ACL last November. Reid said after mandatory minicamp in June that he hoped to have Wiley full-go for the start of training camp.

Undrafted rookie Jake Briningstool also seems set to return after attending mandatory minicamp but not participating. The Clemson tight end joined the Chiefs this offseason after Reid called him personally to discuss a potential role with the team.

The Chiefs’ first training camp practice is Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. Reid said players also would undergo testing and attend meetings on Monday.
