What we know about KC Chiefs’ 2025 NFL schedule release — and what comes next
The NFL schedule matrix means opponents are known several years in advance. But the order of games and number of prime-time or standalone appearances drives the curiosity for the schedule release.
That happens on Wednesday evening, with a few games trickling out before then, starting Monday. The opener is known: As Super Bowl champion, the Philadelphia Eagles get to raise their banner on Sept. 4 at home against the Dallas Cowboys.
As a Super Bowl finalist, the Chiefs get ... no special treatment. But as one of the league’s most successful and attractive teams, the Chiefs can expect plenty of attention from the schedule makers.
It’s been strongly speculated that the Chiefs will play in the second game, Friday, Sept. 5, as the visiting team to the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Chiefs’ consistent success — five Super Bowl appearances in the last six seasons and nine straight AFC West championships — means they’ll face a difficult schedule, including five other division winners from last season.
Here’s what we know about the Chiefs’ 2025 schedule:

Early look at the Chiefs’ 2025 schedule
How could the Chiefs’ schedule unfold?
There are plenty of attractive matchups with home games against the Ravens, Eagles, Houston Texans, Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders, and a trip to Buffalo. Look for all of those games in prime time or to be broadcast to a large portion of the country.
Also, having played in the previous two Christmas Day games, the Chiefs have requested to become a regular on that occasion. The NFL indeed selected them for a 2025 Christmas night game against the Denver Broncos.
Networks and streaming services love the Chiefs. They played in five of the 13 most-watched regular season games in 2024 and have been part of the two most-watched Super Bowls in league history over the past two years.
