It took a bad hotel and long-shot tickets to get these Chiefs fans to Super Bowl

Even a trip to the Super Bowl is not without sacrifices.

“We’re staying near the airport in one of the worst hotel rooms in the world, for $350 a night,” Amanda Schable said.

She wasn’t letting it dampen the trip. Schable, her partner Todd Beery, and their friend Nesha Narcisse, were in high spirits Saturday afternoon, standing on the sidewalk outside a bar on Decatur Street in the French Quarter.

“We had some of the best frog legs I’ve ever had in my life at Cajun Flames, and we’ve been eating our weight in oysters,” Schable said. “And I held a baby alligator on a swamp tour. It’s been great so far.”

All three Kansas Citians are headed to the game Sunday. Schable and Beery secured their seats through the Chiefs’ lottery for season-ticket holders.

“We found out Monday and booked our stuff immediately,” Schable said. “We budgeted about $8,000 for it.”

Narcisse was due to be in New Orleans for a work trip next week. After the Chiefs beat the Bills two weeks ago, she thought she’d try to come a few days early. She was able to hunt down a ticket for $2,300.

“I stayed up all night and waited for the prices to drop,” she said. “I told my husband, ‘I’ll see you later, I’m headed to New Orleans.’”

They said they were hoping to see more Chiefs fans out and about over the next 36 hours.

“Last night and this morning at the parade, it was like a vortex of green,” Schable said. “But I think at the game, we’ll be louder.”

Beery agreed: “We’re gonna bring some Arrowhead to the field.”
