JoCo barber back at Super Bowl to get Trent McDuffie, Isaiah Pacheco, Chiefs game-ready
Trent McDuffie met with DeJuan Bonds on Friday in New Orleans to take care of some important pre-Super Bowl business.
McDuffie got a fresh haircut.
Bonds, who owns Purple Label barber shop in Overland Park, is back at the Super Bowl getting McDuffie and his Chiefs teammates game (and camera) ready.
A Purple Label Instagram video shows Bonds working on McDuffie’s hair as the cornerback talked up the seafood at Justine’s, an upscale restaurant in the city’s French Quarter.
“Getting the best db in the league fresh for the ceremony,” one fan commented.
McDuffie joked with Bonds that his teammate, Isaiah Pacheco, who got a Super Bowl haircut from Bonds last year, would probably show up for his cut at the last minute.
But no.
A second video showed Bonds working on Pacheco Saturday morning.
Getting a cut before a big game is common for players, Bonds told The Star last year.
“Everybody gets their hair cut before the game — maybe not everybody, but most people. It’s become a thing,” he said
Bonds is a popular crew cutter among Kansas City’s pro athletes. He’s worked on dozens of Chiefs and Royals alike, including that guy whose hair gets a lot of attention — Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Bonds traveled to the Super Bowl in Las Vegas last year to tend to the heads of Mahomes and about 30 other Chiefs, including Mecole Hardman, McDuffie and Pacheco.
Bonds has cut Mahomes’ hair since his rookie season. Since 2019, Bonds follows a ritual of opening a new box of Wahl clippers for the QB at the beginning of each season. Bonds only uses them on his MVP client.
Every time Bonds has traveled to a Super Bowl to trim Mahomes’ hair, the Chiefs have won.
Just saying.
This season, though, one of the most talked-about haircuts belonged to that other team.
In October, after a shaky 2-2 start to the season, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni returned from his team’s bye week with a shaved head that left a lot of fans scratching theirs.
“Man is trying to look different so the GM forgets what he looks like so he doesn’t get fired,” one fan wrote on social media.
Sirianni told the media his wife didn’t like the buzz cut, either.
Of course he didn’t get fired. The team went on a six-game winning streak. Now here the Eagles are, back in the Super Bowl. And their coach’s hair is back, too.
And speaking of growing out hair ...
Remember what Travis Kelce looked like at last year’s Super Bowl?
Taylor Swift fans are loving the fact that Swift’s boyfriend has grown out the state trooper buzz cut.
They much prefer the Prince Charming ‘do he’s rocking to make potential history on Sunday.
