Will KC Chiefs lose coaches to other teams? Latest NFL interview updates for Spags, Nagy
It’s been a busy week for the Kansas City Chiefs’ coordinators. They’re putting in the hours preparing for next weekend’s playoff game while also interviewing for head coaching jobs elsewhere.
As of Friday, there are six NFL head coach openings. The New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints are all looking for new head coaches.
Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was scheduled to speak with three teams Friday: The Jets, Jaguars and Raiders.
Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy conducted an interview with the Jets earlier this week.
All interviews are being conducted virtually.
“Both of them deserve opportunity to be head coaches again,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “We’ll see where it goes.”
Spagnuolo, 65, led the St. Louis Rams from 2009-11 and was the New York Giants’ interim head coach in 2017. He went 11-41 in those jobs but has won four Super Bowl rings, including three with the Chiefs — more than any KC coordinator.
Nagy, 46, went 34-33 (including playoffs) with the Chicago Bears from 2018-21. Among the last four Bears head coaches, he’s the only one to post a winning record.
Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi is on the interview trail, too. He’s spoken with the Jets and is expected to interview with the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, a source told The Star. The Jets, Titans and Raiders are in the market for a GM.
